I'm under 18(17 for the next few months at least), and I most definitely will not be trying anything till I turn 18, and probably not for a long time after that, but I've decided to start looking into Salvia Divinorum now so that if I ever do decide to try it I'll know what I'm getting into. I mentioned in another thread that I'm going to buy "The Salvia Divinorum Grower's Guide". I will also be getting "Growing the Hallucinogens:How to Cultivate and Harvest Legal Psychoactive Plants", "Psychedelic Shamanism", and the "Psychedelics Encyclopedia". I will then be reading all the relevant info on Erowids, the Lycaeum, and the Salvia Divinorum Research and Information Centres site. Do you guys know of any other books or resources I could use to learn more? Perhaps any practises I could do to help prepare psychologically and spiritually for it? How long did you guys wait between the day you decided to try some salvia divinorum, and the day you tried it? How do you know when you're ready? Thanks guys......
I supose you can never have too much information but if you read everything on erowid and lycaeum there isn't too much more I think you'll be able to find on the subject, maybe try the DEAs site and wikipedia, but like I say erowid and lycaeum have it pretty well covered. As far as practices to prepare yourself psychologically for the trip, I know lots of people try meditation, google meditation and I'm sure you'll find hundreds of links to forms of meditation, it's not really my thing though. As far as my personal preperation I usually just try to do something fun that I enjoy earlier in the day so that I'm in a good mood, go rallying in my Lancia Delta Evo, or take a flying lesson, watch a film I like, that kind of stuff, but thats just me personally. As for spiritually again thats not really my thing but people do say meditation helps them or praying to your chosen Deity, be it Allah, Buddah or Queen Spider. I did it on the same day that I decided to do it, but I had read a good bit of info, mainly just erowid, just out of curiosity before hand. Thers no real way of knowing when your ready, my advice is just do it, try not to build it up in your head too much and psych yourself out, it is an amazing experience but there is such a thing as being too prepared, just do it. =And the thing you have to remember particually with Salvia is that no matter how much info you read on the subject and how many experience reports you read or people you talk to that have done it, you will really still have no idea what the experience is like or how your going to react. It is completely unlike any other drug out there. When someone asks what mescaline is like you can compare it to other drugs like mushrooms and acid and point out the differences but there really is nothing to compare Salvia too. One of my friends explained this well, she said "trying to explain to some one that has never done Salvia what the trip is like, is like trying to describe the colour green to someone that was born blind", i think that sums it up well.
Thanks for the food for thought Stiney! Seeing as I'm going to be holding out until I'm 18 anyway, I might as well make use of the time until in preparation. As for comparing it to other drugs; I've tried none, so that won't affect me. This will be my first psychedelic experience, so I might as well make the most of it. As for the suggestions and info, thanks, I'll try meditation. I already practise meditative like practises, but I might up the ante so to speak.
