Ride The Lightning. That album is like a greatest hits album. The only song that's not as good as the rest of them is Creeping Death.
I really didn't like Metallica's first album, it seems different to me from all the rest of their albums. The only songs I like from that album are HTL, TFH, Motorbreath, S&D, and No Remorse. Well, actually I do like the album, but I love Metallica, with the exception of St. Anger all their albums are pretty damn good, but yes I do like ReLoad better than Kill Em.
why people think's that metallica's 90's albums are bad? i think that load and reload are genius like mop and ajfa. but my favorite is ajfa))
My favorite is probably kill em all, Anestesia is amazing, being a player of the bass myself I find it insanely thrilling to listen to, even today, after hearing it thousands of times. If only I could play like that...
I don't mind Load and Reload actually. Both have decent songs. Their 80s work is definitely much better though. I think I like the self-titled album least of all. But that one has nice bits too (Sad but true, Wherever I may roam, and Of wolf and man, most notably). I think for me, Ride and Master share top position.
Of the one's I can think off the top of my head in order: 1.) Ride the Lightening 2.) Master of Puppets 3.) Black Album 4.) Kill Em' All 5.) And Justice For All 6.) Load 7.) Reload 8.) St. Anger
In my opinion Justice was there best. But there were all good up to the Black Alblum. I don't really like anything after that. I did see them in concert a few years back and I will admit that they can still jam their songs. And they made the songs that I don't perticularly like sound good. However I still won't be running out to buy the Metallica alblums that are missing from my collection.
My list my seem strange, but luckily I don't give a shit! 1. Garage Inc. 2. And Justice for all 3. Metallica 4. Master of puppets 5. Ride the lightening 6. Kill em all. 7. Load 8. Reload 9. St Anger
Yeah dude, Pulling Teeth is a great bass solo, you just need a lot of wah and overdrive to get it to sound right, I have never actually learned the whole dang thing though! As for me my favorite Metallica albums are Kill em' All, .....And Justice For all, and St. Anger it is great because the evolution of the band. I think that Metallica has gone so far with music, there are doing something we just don't know yet. Plus after watching Some Kind of Monster, it made me look at Metallica different and the way they did the whole album.
How about .. "We still sell more records than fat fred's favorite bands, and we don't even try anymore."
Argumentum ad Populum, If the masses say it, it must be true. But everyone says metallica sold out and suck now, it must be true.
Well, I would say that in music a sell out is a person or band that change their sound not because of an inner artistic vision but because they specificaly want to be more populare and make more money. The changes from justice to black to load are obviously changes made to get more mainstream fans and become more populare. The music went from heavy, fast, long songs with complex arangements to softer, slower, shorter songs with simpler arangements. Every element that was cahanged became more in tune with mainstream apeal. It is pretty hard to think that the guys in the band had an artistic vision that just happened to coincide with making their music more comercialy viable in every way. There, an argument for metalica being sell outs that has nothing to do with ad populum. What part do you disagree with?
To sell out is to put aside your integrity in exchange for money and fame, not just because you've changed the songs you play. My friend of misery, nothing else matters, wherever I may roam and the unforgiven are all roughly 6:30, give or take 10 seconds, while the rest were shorter, the shortest being holier than thou, which is a faster paced song, sounding a bit like shortest straw, but ending off at about 3:30. Three songs on ...AJFA are around 6:30, and one is sitting at 5:45, the others up to 9 minutes. To say that they completely overhauled their sound is quite frankly incorrect. Some of the songs on the black album held riffs that relate quite closely to ...AJFA. Examples: Don't Tread On Me - Harvester of Sorrow, Through the Never - Frayed Ends Of Sanity, amongst others. As far as simple arrangements go, there's not really much of a difference between AJFA and the black album when it comes to this, Metallica have always had simple structures. Mainstream rock scene 'a la early 90's was the dying sounds of glam rock and the uprise of grunge, correct? Where does this one sit? You'd think that if they truely wanted to capitalize on the music scene hotspots, they'd have done something that corresponded with the rising trend, if not for black album, atleast load - this is assuming that they were still after the cash. There is no denying that this is easier for mainstream listeners to get into, but to say that metallica changed their ways entirely at this point is untrue. What is true is that this was the last album where metallica held metal roots, taking up a hard rock sound until the unfortunate release of St. Anger.
Some Kind Of Monster, award winning documentary. I can hear it now, the wails of the greasy basement dwellers "These guys are real people? I want to see people acting tough, not guys who are willing to expose their real feelings on film" Give me a break, the film wasn't supposed to be a doc about them going out on tour, it was originally going to be the making of the new album, but due to other circumstances it became a lot more than that. Cliff didn't need such things back in the day, but neither did the others. Don't be so foolish as to believe that other bands haven't had a therapist secretly without the video cameras.
BTW, I really don't know why people hate the St. Anger album so much. I think it is soooo much better than the Load of crap albums. At least they're trying to play really agressive kick ass metal again, even if the riffs are a lot simpler than on their best albums, it has a stripped down garage quality and spontinaety of spirit that was totaly lacking in the Loads. And, I might be the only person on earth to say this, I love the raw evil drum sound.
Well I'll tell you why I'm not into it... -The snare drum has a terrible bell ringing sound which sounds like the snare's actually hanging off. -They've got rid of the solos. -The structures of the songs are piss poor for Metallica. -The new bassist has NOTHING on Newstead. I must also take this opportunity to point something out. How on earth can you call the St. Anger album "aggressive kick ass metal", and post in another topic that Sepultura and Soulfly aren't metal??!! In comparison, Sepultura are a lot more metal than this album.
For the record, Rob didn't play bass on this album, and he's also 1000's of times better than newsted. Suicidal Tendencies anyone? The snare he uses on St. Anger is infact a brass bell snare, a signature piece worth around $1500 US, not that its a great sound by any means, it was experimental. The songs on St. Anger would not benefit from solos, they aren't the right type of songs to add solos into, although rumors have it that on tour the sometimes added solo parts into them.
