I am so glad I found this board...it is so much more relaxed than the other two I'd run into(no names;) ) I have a few questions. I had wanted dreads for more than 10 years(after seeing them for the first time in NoCal) and finally three weeks ago, I had my momhelp me put them in(backcombing) So after some initial trial and error(namly, WAX) I have..something lol. They are very loose at the tips(as much as an inch and a half) and VERY loose at the root. A few are hard as rocks in the middle now, while most of the rest are semi soft and matted up really well. The ones that are really hard are the ones Im worried about. Now at three weeks(with fine hair) there is no way its locked up allready, right? I mean, thats supposed to take a year or more I'd read! So if its not locked up, is it wax in there??? Ill try and post a few pics tommorrow, but is all of this normal? Thanksin advance!

Try washing? If it's wax they should be softer after washing.

Yeah, I'd say wash it in really hot water. That'll loosen up the wax a bit. If you're worried there's still some in there, it's almost worth it to disregard what you've done so far and just worry about getting the wax out for now. When you're finished, your dreads might not look so formed, but at least they'll be clean! :)
And welcome - it's always nice to meet new dreadies!
