Ok, we get steriotyped, just wondering what kind of steriotypical things are linked with dreadlocks that YOU have encountered

Ok, I used to smoke, I've reacently quit (a month ago)
but everywhere I went when I wasn't smoking & I was in a group of people, strangers would always ask me for a lighter
or a spare cigarette, anyone have any other experiences ???

 

Whenever I go to Camden I usually get offered weed and people think I am selling it.
Smoking weed is the only stereotype I get but I don't mind because it seems to be a very common stereotype with dreadheads!

 

In school I got drug tested for being a pot smoker (and I dont XD)

 

WOW, land of the free huh...

Sterotypes - Dirty, Pot head (true with me), stoner... yea pretty much that...

 

I use to smoke but like no more besides dogs are coming in monday next week in school... I wanna pet a visicous doggy! Well I have my own dog o.o

 

At my old job, people would ask how I lived without showering, and washing my dreads. Also sometimes people I don't know ask me for bud, or if I want to buy some. But yea, I shower and don't smoke at all.

 

I have been called a rasta (I'm not rastafarian).


I have been asked if I wash my hair (Duh!).

I have been asked if I will shave when I'll take them down (I WILL NEVER EVER GET RID OF MY HAIR! I plan to die with my locks ).

That's about it...

 

Yeah, I get the same with showering. I don't get it.

 

i've been called a drug dealer, multiple times.
i was informed i'm obsessed with bob marley.
my coworker jokes and anyone that comes in with tie dye or a grateful dead shirt on, he askes me if they are my friend...
yesterday someone who looked pretty poor offered me money on the street, as though i was a bum.
and .. hm.. i think thats it. anything else (i have fleas, i dont shower) is stuff i just jokingly say to my friends when someone gives me dirty looks.

 

I think the worst one I ever got was when a boss of mine acutally called me into her office (this is like, nearly five years ago...) to accuse me of something stupid for no reason, and when I got a little bit nervous and started twidling one of my dreads a little bit, she actually had the bitchy gall to ask me "Why are you scratching your head like that? Is it because you don't shower and it's filthy!?"

Um, yeah. Long story short, I told HER boss about it, and she couldn't fucking touch me or say a word pretty much the rest of the time I worked there!

Oh yeah, another one that made me laugh - a medium-size town we were passing through while on the road actually featured a newspaper story about how poplular the dreadie hairstyle has gotten, and actually credited this popularity almost entirely to Adam Duritz. I was barely even aware of who Adam Duritz was at the time! Ha! And while I do have mad respect for him and his music, I would certainly never translate that into a reason to imitate his hairstyle!

 

Yesterday i went to an small town and get a bit to eat... I was in the resturaunt, the guy who was serveing me asked me "Are you trying to get metal hair?"... I looked puzzled for a second and told him i was on my way to get dreadlocks... Then i realized he asumed that because i was wearing my black hoodie...

 

^ well wearing a black hoodie dont mean nothing XD I think he thought that since you had dreads you like metal (music) like slipknot and all them since they have dreads

 

Well, whatever it was still funny...

I don't mind it when people come up and ask me for a lighter--I think its awesome.

We stoners are all a phamily, and if one does not have a lighter, another should giveth, you know? What goes around, comes around... and it's true. I think its awesome that you can make an immediate connection with someone though stonerism.

It's a way of life, maaan....

 

Haha, I just realized we arent talking about stoners... we are talking about dreadie pham..... well, I dont think I've met one that doesnt smoke, haha... but obviously there are some because some have posted as that.

^^ same and people allways ask to bum a cig. random people at school have asked if I could hook up a bag, and im like nah man i dont sell bud haha. idk people assume because i have dreads that im a huge druggie, which is kind of true, but i see myself more of a pothead/stoner haha
I have a friend who has dreads but he doesnt smoke weed. he occationally does, but thats like a once a month thing ya know.

my dreads arent done but are well on their way and my grandpa jsut tells me taht its nasty and only filthy people ahve hair like m ine and dreads. But I jsut reply by saying that some of the most evil people in the world wear a 3 peice suit and have their hair cut short and parted nice.
