I can't believe it, all round the country the government are shutting down hundreds of hospitals! It means that now it's gonna take 45mins instead of 10 mins for people in my area to get to A&E! Thousands of people are gonna die coz of this! And all the old people will get chucked out and will probably die! soooooooooooo harsh! What the hells going on with the health minister???
Have you got a link to a news report on this? Would be good to find more info on it - it sounds pretty bad....
well the bbc's being quite quiet about it but here's the website for the hospital near me thats being shut down: http://http://www.saveallsaints.org/savethedgh/default.asp?id=6 bare in mind this isn't in a very small town. its in a big town thats readily developing!
It's pretty awful, I work in hospitals all over the country, most people say they aren't happy working for the NHS and some of the buildings (Stanmore springs to mind) are really badly in need of a total rebuild. They all do brilliant work and most staff are completely dedicated to their work, the management rely on this I feel. Not a good state of affairs.
Same thing is happening arfound this way!! Even in a uni town! It sucks big time!!! It just totally mad!! SAVE LOCAL HOSPITALS is what I say! With or without an A&E dept!
Are there any local campaign groups you can get involved in? There have been some that have stood and won council elections and even an MP. The Huddersfield campaign for example. Claire might know more about that. When you can do something like that, the government has to stop and at least take notice....
Yeah people are picketting all the time! For example my local hospital down the road is in threat of closure! And it has 'Save our hospital' signs all over it!! And its been in the local paper tons of times!
If you want, you could write a short article, or get one of the campaigners to write a short article, and I can pop it up on: www.socialistunitynetwork.co.uk We're all for giving local causes like these national attention....
Sounds like a bad idea shutting all these hospitals, they've done the same in Devon and Cornwall. However, the quality of our health service has been pretty terrible (MRSA problems, staffing issues etc). I reckon they're planning some sort of refurb project or summat...
"Ms Hewitt told the audience of health professionals and campaigners that if the public wanted care to improve and waiting lists to carry on falling they would have accept that the structure of the NHS would change." Fucking arrogant cheeky bastards! All this top down government is getting too much.
