Looks like this is a last ditch effort to try to stop the violence in Baghdad that's gotten completely out of control. They're trying to seal off the whole city and have a few controlled access points. Any thoughts? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060916/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq .
Hmm. That yahoo story I had bookmarked changed. The other day It was a story about how they were building a trench around Baghdad. The title was: 'Iraqis to dig trenches around Baghdad' .
The gov'ts are now backpedaling on the ditch idea. They probably spent a few seconds thinking about how that wouldn't work. Like how it would take thousands of workers probably over a year to construct any kind of effective barrier. There would still have to be thousands of tons of things being brought into and out of a city of 5 million daily. Most of the sectarian violence is wroght with guns & knive's, which the death squads already have in abundance. All they need is bullets/gunpowder, easy to conceal. What's the next bright idea? A 10' high wall around the city? A moat filled with alligators?
Maybe they got his idea from the wall around Palestine idea. Like you said, it's a huge city with many logistic problems that would result. .
