I just finished reading book 5 (last one published) of Jean Auel's "Earth's Children" series, and I was thinking how great these books would be for homeschooled kids. I'm thinking like teenagers, who have already studied a bit of geology, anthropology, and the history of the earth. As implausible as the main storyline is (pure fiction!) it contains a lot of pretty heavy educational background material. It's really interesting, and keeps you thinking about everything to the human thought process, to how things work or get put together, to the actual history of us and where we came from and where we're going (obviously not something for avid creationists...;)) Plus, it's got an interesting main storyline, characters that really involve you and make you care what happens to them in the end, and enough sex scenes to keep any teenager interested! :)

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. Since I finished school last year, I've been reminded of how much fun it can be to read for pleasure, and how much a good book can spark your interest in learning more about the world around you!

Anyone else have good books like this to recommend? (To homeschooled kids, or ME!?)

There is another series of books that are similar in nature. Brother Wind, Sister Moon, and Mother Earth, Father Sky are two of the books. I can't remember the author, but they are great.

    edit to add:
The author is Sue Harrison. There are four or five books in the series.

I read all the Earth's children series too, except I have to admit I might've glossed over some of the more technical spear-making details to get back to the sex :) Great for older teens, definately.

I just found this in the Parade Magazine that comes with our Sunday newspaper each week. Thought you maybe could use it. All they require is the postal coverage.
