i have a tongue tie, which means i can hardly extend my tongue out of my mouth at all.
but whenever i've seen people getting piercings, they have to extend their tongue outwards, which i can't do.

if i ever wanted my tongue pierced, would it even be possible?
(just something i've been wondering about)

My tongue isn't very long and when I had it pierced the girl messed up and pierced it too close to the edge so I had a lisp and couldn't eat/drink... the needle also slipped out as she didn't hold onto it and I couldn't feel that I had pull my tongue back in... so she had to repierce it immediately afterwards... anyways, she was just done apprenticing and hadn't done very many tongue piercings, especially short tongues... and I had to take it out and go back.. the owner of the store pierced it again and he pulled out my tongue, flipped it sideways and pierced it through the corner of my mouth where my lips meet rather than pull my tongue out and go down. I still have it and haven't had any problems with it since.

honeyfugle, I have the same condition....and the short answer to your question is Yes you can still get a tongue piercing...But it wouldn't be in the same location as the others, since the piece of skin under your tongue, to my knowledge cannot be pierced through length-wise...

My dentist suggested getting that skin under my tongue snipped...which I decided against because I have no interest in changing something like that...in which case, then people with our condition can get it pierced once that is healed.

two very interesting posts... i'm glad i could have a tongue piercing as an option.

when i was a baby, my parents were given the option of getting my tongue-tie cut, but apparantly it was a major procedure back then (i've no idea if it actually is or not!) and they turned it down. i'm glad they did, because now i have a great conversation piece!

The procedure isn't that big of a deal...they cut it, sew it, you have to eat liquids for a few weeks, and you're good to go.

And I agree with the conversation piece...I always have an ice breaker "Wanna see something kinda weird?" Followed by..."Watch what I can do!" (I can make my tongue do weird twists because of the tongue tie)

Its actually not that big a deal even. Find a studio that does branding via an electronic cautery unit and its very very simple. They just simply burn through the web (pain relative to that of getting it cut or tattoo linework, and much less painful that the average burn you would accidentally recieve) and the area is instantly cauterized. Healing would take a few weeks maximum but only a few days would hamper eating possibilities. Very easy for anyone would the skill and equipment. If youre around london try to track down a man by the name of Sammpa (mad max, psycho cyborgs, ask around piercer/tattooists).. im not sure if he does cautery (he does a lot of extreme modifications) but if not im sure he can point you in the right direction.
