Okay, I've been trying to find the answer to this to no avail, hopefully someone on here can help. Does anyone know what the Dutch laws for owning a business there are, to wit, can an American own a business there, specifically a coffee shop? Would a foreign national need to have a Dutch national in partnership? Any help is appreciated, even if it's just pointing me in the right direction to get info. myself.

Get in line, Sam. There are probably thousands of Americans in line ahead of you with the same idea. Just like the thousands of college kids who come up with the great idea of...... opening a bar!!!!!!

I'm sure when the Dutch are ok'ing businesses, especially from buitenstaanders, they are looking for an area where there is a great need. The bureaucrats probably get scads of applicants looking to open another weed shop each hour. yawn

You might also want to be aware that you cannot get a licence to open a new Coffeeshop whatever nationality you are - and when existing ones go up for sale they generally get snapped up by someone who knows the owner long before they reach the open market.

For other businesses - if you want to start a registered company you have to prove you have a certain amount of capital in the bank - something like 50,000 or 100,000 euros I think.

I got approached about a coffeeshop deal about 6 months ago. All I had to do was find 200,000 euros within 5 days and I could have gone in for a quarter share. Like I was going to be able to raise 200k in 5 days ;-) That's assuming the deal was pukka.
