lol, i was thinking about this today while I was working on a new shirt. I was listening to country music (don't make fun ), dancing around and singing while I was sewing. Some days I have the TV on in the background and "watch" it, but when I actually get my sewing time during the day, the only thing on is dr phil......so on comes the music again.
I usually have NPR on in the background and it's usually the Diane Rheme show (can't stand her voice) or I'll listen to music. Sometimes I put in dvds to listen to while I sew. lately it's been my Seinfeld dvd's. I don't even have to watch because I know them all by heart now, so I just listen.
I like to watch DVDs, lots of movies and tv series (buying/collecting dvds is my weakness, we have lots of them...). I listen to music, or put on video of various Grateful Dead, Phish, bob marley, pink floyd, etc. shows... I don't own a tv (you couldn't PAY ME to watch commercial tv!) so all this is on a computer, i'll just bring the laptop into the sewing room... Lately since I've been switching back and forth between glasswork and sewing, I've been listening to audio books. The two studios share a window in my house, so I can keep the same stereo set up going and listen to the same audio book all the time while I work. Right now it's extra cool, because I'm reading a long series that my brother's obsessed with, and I have the books and the audio, so I can "follow along"... It's nice because I have a weakness for reading, and when I'm into a book I'd just assume sit and read all day. This way, I basically am! I can still get stuff done, but I'm reading as much as if I were just doing that with all my time. And then in the evenings, and before bed, etc, I can still really read from wherever I am in the audio. </rant> (I just woke up and this was the tangent my brain went on... sorry!)
I usually just have an internet radio station on from Live365--either Bagel Radio or the Electric Front.
I'm very much not into tv at all, although I'd often have a movie in the background while knitting or doing my ebay stuff...
I put on some sort of music.... I have a good amount of phish and dead dvds, so I like putting those on. But a lot of times I just get on that Sirius radio shit, and set it on the JamBand station... they play good stuff, by the way. Les Claypool!!!
lately everytime i sew i only listen to the same 4 cd's and nothing else. I don't expect anyone knows them but they're Liam Titcomb; Jory Nash, One Way Down; Feist, Let It Die; and Onlyforward, Everything's Perfect. They're really good, mellow, groovin' tunes. It seems anything else i put on throws me off.
I sit and talk to people or listen to music, occasionally I'll listen to a movie or something... Btw, Alex, I TOTALLY hear you on the Feist thing. She's amazing. I love listening to Feist, Ani Difranco, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor when I'm sewing/knitcrocheting/whatevering... occasionally Phish.. Oooh, and Jimmy Buffet.
I HATE TV but I ALWAYS have movies or music on when I sew. I really like Easy Rider or other movies with good music. My husband gets annoyed because he'll say "wanna watch a movie?" and I'll say okay and sit at my sewing machine and start to sew!! He tells people I need to sew to "listen to a movie".
