I try to stay away from major brand names, but there are some, such as those created by members of bands that I like (Level 27 by BIlly Martin of Good Charlotte comes to mind) that I support, simply because I use my money to support talented individuals.

I completely agree, I refuse to wear brand names. I will not pay $50 to have some store’s logo across my chest. I wear what I like… things that send a message. (yes I am one of those people who insists on wearing something that you have to read). I just don’t see who made these brand name stores so special (I suppose the logical answer is we did).

fuck paying to be an advertisement, that shit sucks. I nearly vomit when I remember being a misguided victim of the educational system and media and sporting Nike's as a result.

granted, I wear airwalk now, and there's plenty of things in my house, like my computer that says Apple on it, well I'm damn happy about that. And my Fuji camera.

Can't win them all I guess. If I have to get something and a brand name is attached, well then I just deal with the fact that corporations and government regulations have killed most chances for any kind of alternatives. I'd love to have an entire wardrobe of hand made clothing from some heady mama's rather than the few pairs of levi's I have remaining and other like things, but I haven't been able to afford such fine hand made clothing.

Which brings up another little variable here, and that is the freaking China factor. If it's not brand name, it's usually made in freaking China. One damn dollar at a time that country is laughing all the way to the bank as they slowly take us over financially. I certainly hope to hell that if we're trying to avoid brand names, we're trying to shop within America still, at the very least.

I would have put time into a better-worded/better-grammatical reply, but this shit pisses me off so I tend to just throw it down there as quick as I can and move on.

I try not to wear brand name or shop at places that sell cheap stuff (ie. Walmart or dollar stores) even if it is cheap and brandless and plain black, odds are it still hurts some little chinese kid in a sweatshop somewhere. I live in a small town though so it is pretty much unavoidable for some things.

I find it's too inconvenient trying to buy avoid buying brand names.

Just get some fabric paints and you can turn the message around - such as my Nike T-shirt. Nike - another genuine sweatshop product. or D&G - because I'm in love with myself.

Hey and why worry about buying domestic prodcuts. America and the rest of the West have ripped off the rest of the world for centuries. Isn't is time we started to redress the balance.

    Go Nutz!!

p.s. Has anyone read Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. The main character is "allergic" to logos and religiously delables all purchases. Most inspiring.

i've already voted in the poll so i guess may have already said this, but just in case, ...
at any rate i avoid them, not fanaticly but i avoid them.
i don't think i'd refuse to wear something i otherwise liked,
if someone else bought it and gave it to me,
but there ain't no way in hell i'd spend extra of my own just TO wear that crap.

Most brand names, as well as Clothing which has ANY relation to a movie, a TV show, ect, I usually don't wear. I refuse to buy my kids Disney, McKids, Nike, (even my 6 year old knows what a Sweat Shop is, and that kids younger than HER make those shoes, she doesn't want them) Nick Kids, ect. Disney, McDonalds Nick TV ect have ENOUGH money, and I'm not going to pimp out my kids while PAYING my good money to advertise for them. My babies (and teens) are not walking (crawling) bill boards. I won't even buy these second hand, because I am STILL advertising for the company. Until Coca Cola, Pepsi, McKids, NickJr. Disney, ect pay ME to advertise, I am not going to pay for the privelege of doing THIER work for them.

I used to like Levis. They were good quality. I could buy a pair or 501 Levis and they'd last me 20 years. Now, they've closed ALL the American Manufactuing places, fired all those hard working people, and are now making the pants in 3rd world countries, most like in Sweat Shops. I bought my last pair during the turn over, and the damn things didn't even hold up. WTF? So much for 20 year pants.

I DO wear Birkenstocks. Not only can I wear a pair for 3-5 years, but they pay their employees well, they care about their customers, and they are great quality.

Like someone else said, nearly EVERYTHING you buy has some name on it. I think you need to be more specific about the word "Name Brand." I don't know WHAT one can buy that doesn't have some name on it, but avoiding the big Sweat Shop Brand Names (Nike ect) is probably best. And anything that the first thing poeple SEE is the name of the brand, like Cherokee. Even though it is a store brand, I don't want to advertise for anyone, not even Target.

Na, I don't always have icons on my shirt. Right now I do have a moose on my shirt though. I could have bought a polo shirt with no moose for $20, but I wanted to be cool so I got one with a moose for $60.

bah I voted wrong, should have picked I wear some but not others.

I used to never wear brand names, but now that I have gotten a bit older (with more money) I tend to go to the more expensive stores because they have clothes that fit me better since I am a thin guy. All the cheaper stores and cheaper brand names seem to only make clothing for fat guys. I would NEVER wear a logo for a company all the clothes I wear do not have writing on them except my band shirts i get from concerts.
