Hey Yaaaalll!!! first time poster long time watcher from afar tho!! rite im a 18 year old weed smoker and im movin to amsterdam with my freind in 2 weeks. we have both smoked weed for years and can handle ourselves but was just wondering if anyone out there has got any advice about amsterdam because neither of us has even visited yet! any advice is welcome cheers
1. Look before you cross,be aware of where you are at all times so you wont be hit by a bike,tram,car or scooter. 2. Dont just go into the first coffeeshop you see,lots of the coffeeshops right out of centraal station with the exception of Centraal Station coffeeshop sell shit weed 3. Buy a strippenkart if you intend to travel alot on the public transportation system. or if your here for a good while pay 66 euros for the transportation card at Central station for unlimited travel 4. Avoid taxis,the second they hear you speak english lots of them will want to rip you off. If you need to get home real late take the night buses. 5.if you want to save money and food and such go to supermarkets,restaurants can be pricey and not too good. 6. if you ride the trains make sure you translate and put in the right options because if not a 44 euro fine you will get. 37 on the metro 7. plan your shopping,most places close at 6 supermarkets close at 8 except on thursday when the stores stay open later in Amsterdam. 8. good reputable coffeeshops, De Dampkring,Tweede Kamer,Grey Area,Barneys and the Greenhouse 9. If you buy a bike,tie it well,ive had 2 stolen here so far. any other questions let me know,i know the city reasonably well after living here a year.
watch out 4 the bike's........ and watch out 4 the hawiian shrooms........ i almost got hit by a bike..... i ate a box of hawiian shrooms and tripped-out... big time....... it was a wild trip..... so...... watch out 4 bikes while tripping on hawiian shrooms........ have fun........

the greenhouse is the best coffeeshop by far. Its located behind the stopera. Dont buy just the strongest stuff you can lay your hands on. STRONG! begin with some nice light-sightsee shit to free your mind. You can always just do a dance and sing routine in front of the central station to free your mind tho....(need for weed..?) And another thing. There is no romance in Amsterdam. Maybe there is romance in yourself....but it is sertainly not in Amsterdam. The dam is just another tourist attraction...and its pretty stupid to think its got some kind of magic. Yesss....a few "grounded" words from me here....but most of all be FREE to do whatever U like..
Amsterdam may be the most romantic place on earth. My only advice is "Live large" cause you only live once. SP
dont act like a dumbass. see that the city has a ton more to offer than just weed. it is beautiful city with great people and can be a very rewarding place to live. dont give americans an even worse name by acting like a stupid stoner while there. oh, and have fun. I wish i could move back there

Don't worry too much about being a stupid stoner - people tend to find it amusing and are generally happy to laugh at/with you. The Dutch even tend to find the English who get drunk and then smoke and fall over pretty funny (although they won't let you into nightclubs like that). It's Amsterdam tradition that around any hookah pipe in a coffeeshop you usually find semiconscious americans. It's more the yob behaviour you find on the typical english stag party type outing that offends - that loud vocal and offensive drunkenness in the street that makes England so great (I'm English too - by birth). ;-)
