I have a serious, fucked-up issue. I cannot help but mutilating my body. That is removing scabs, turning tiny minuscule imperfections into enormous bleeding injuries, not leaving almost innexistant blackheads alone, bitting my cuticles... nothing I do with tools though like knives or scissors to cut myself, but all of the above.

I have tried many times to control myself and stop... but I can't. I need help. I feel like a sicko. Could it be related to my nervous issues?

Very much so, it sounds like OCD the way you describe it.

Yes I have several ocd's... and I'm on Zoloft but I really want to stop this particular compulsion. Any advice, please?? I really need to stop or I'll destroy my body before age.

Meditation is the best advice I can give, cut out the sugar in your diet, is even better.

I don't quite have ocd but I have had the urge to self-mutilate it was completely nerves for me and I don't know what's better for nervousness than meditation and I don't know what's worse for it than sugar.

    Good luck, hon.

Deflect your attention from the habit to something else.Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator and whenever you have a habit urge-of any kind-pour and slowly sip 2 glasses of ice water. This will often allow time for the urge to pass.

Suffering from your own choices, maybe you find your choice was to suffer.

Now, to find what your true intent is would be a choice as well ... to go beyond the surface ... beyond the body cult, the attachments, the dependency, the fears ... beyond the drama of suffering ... to be still, and listen to your own Self, and find the purity is not in the physical.

Sometimes all we want to know is we are complete, and real deeper inside ... underneath all surfaces, and callouses of the heart. We want to know how to be vulnerable to our own true Self rather than to the images created by society. There is no suffering in being true.

Sometimes we forget we are all spirit. As a society, we might suffer from collective numbness, denial and spiritual self-mutilation. As spirit, we are free to move beyond. As we are born free into this world ... and we will pass on in the same freedom, and the full beauty of our being.

None will take this away from you.

Just a few thoughts on this topic.

It can be an OCD or anxiety issue.

I prefer to think of it as skin picking rather than self multilation. My vice is my cuticles. When I'm anxious I pick at them, not to the point of bleeding or anything, but I really enjoy the feeling of picking at dry cuticles. The best way I have found to stop is to change my setting.

Look up Dermatillomania on wikipedia. This sounds to me like what you have, although I could be off base. Good luck!

take it for what its' worth to you but I found the reasons for cat anxiety may parallel a young adults situation.....

    Self Mutilation :
Feline Psychogenic Alopecia in cats is a "dermatopathy" that results from constant licking of areas of the skin. The cause is unclear , but is believed to be related to anxiety resulting from perceived alterations in the animal's environment, social position, enhanced competition for choice space, and control of food and elimination areas...or any condition involving some or all of these factors. These perceived stressors alter the levels of stress hormones, and other neurogical moderators, such as endorphins, resulting in the behavior.

Immune System Dysfunctions causing fatigue and a person or dog to feel tired, tired, tired. Low white blood cell count and red blood cell count. Due to poisoning, can cause cancer. Damage to spleen, possible kidney problems and urinary tact infection showing traces of blood in the urine possible.
"Women with endometriosis seem to suffer disproportionately to a number of other immune system disorders such as lupus, thyroid-related problems, allergies, and candida albicans. Women with endometriosis have also been found to carry cells with reduced ability to fight off "bad" cells (Dmowski, M.P. et al.), and high levels of autoantibodies that attack their own healthy cells (El-Roiey, et al.)."
