i think your talking different sizes, around here its 12 or 13$ for the 25 ounce ones which is probably what you had.

I'm not a big fan of the noel, I'd much rather the nocturnum

yessir, 6.99 for the big 22oz bottles (well, 750ml....roughly 22oz or so....a fifth of beer, like you often see belgians and other quality beers sold)

you know, the bigguns with the cork and cage.

like i said, they normally run around 10 from what i understand - but some places will charge more.....

i got them from a tobacconist near my appartment that also sells some pretty good beers. i saw he had them, but i waited a while before buying cause i didnt know how much they were and i was trying to be better about my beer budget, and lets face it....august isn't the optimal time of year to enjoy our strong belgians. i noticed the beer wasn't really selling....at all.....just collecting dust.....

so one day i go in when hes walking around with the pricing gun and ask how much the delirium noel is....and he said "today....eh, 6.99" so i went ahead and got three ;)

yeah, it would be a rip off for 13. it would be reasonable to pay 9-10. but for 7 bucks i think its a steal....plus i'm cellaring them until christmas eve....a few months additional aging plus drinking them with family on a cold evening will make them much more enjoyable, methinks :)

well, same here, but i prefer stronger, more highly alcoholic beers in cooler weather, and more refreshing or lower alcohol beers in warmer weather. in early spring and winter and fall i'd say strong belgians are my top choice, along with imperial stouts. if i've got enough to pay for a bottle or two of good beer, but i can only get a limited amount, i sometimes buy stronger regardless of weather conditions simply because i want the most bang for my buck (for example, you can get 750ml of lion stout at 8%abv for less than 3.50, or you could get samuel smiths imperial stout instead of the nut brown ale for the same price...and so on)

otherwise i tend to go for 4-6% hefes, wits, lagers, and other "normal" alcohol level beers during hot weather. i'm also much more prone to refridgerating beer during the hot months. it all mostly depends on mood though.
