I do it belonged to my grandfather and is beaver skin so it may have been handed down to him. This is the grandfather who shot a man for not taking his hat off to my grandmother its very beat up and dusty, but you can see it belonged a fine gentleman anyway do you have a top hat ,are you thinking of getting one, what sort of hat do you have
I love the story about your grandad shooting someone for not taking their hat orf! I have a boonie which I bought in Australia, does that count?
had to image search boonie to find out what one was, but its a hat so yes you can talk about it in this thread , its not a top hat but you can be said to aspire to a top hat . Ive talked about my grandfather before he didnt shoot to kill (I suppose he was kind hearted ) and he thrashed with a Irish thorn stick the person who wouldnt take his hat off before shooting him, and gave him good warning before the thrashing that he wasnt acting like a gentleman. really I should post a picture of my grandfather and the Irish thorn stick which I have as a keepsake, its not that flexible these days but I would imagine would have been a fine thrashing stick in the edwardian period anyway the man who wouldnt take his hat off gave a full apology after being shot which my grandfather and grandmother accepted so it all worked out well in the end back to top hats
mmm thorn sticks. That really is some story. My grandad (rip) was in the navy during the Second W.W. and was an engineer in the bowels of HMS Orion when it was attacked off Crete during the evacuation of a bodged invasion. He spent 2 weeks or so below decks looking after the diesel engines while the ship was pounded and it had a massive effect on him. When he got back to blighty he couldn't talk at all for about a year, and had to be coaxed out of it by his soon-to-be wife (my granny). One of the first things he said was to a complete stranger who was talking to him. The stranger said something along the lines of "thanks, mate" to which he replied "Don't call me mate!" Okay, so it's not much of a story... back to top hats. This boonie is definitely inferior and I must find a top hat to replace it. Do you know of any fine top hat establishments? My granparents were VERY victorian, had servants and that, would be nice for my granny to see me all dapper!
Lou you look great there, though you're not quite so colourfully attired as when I remember meeting you many moons ago
hehe its a phase thing sal i vary. sometimes im a colourful bird, sometimes i go punk, sometimes im kinda trendy and sometimes i go for boring black hehe keep a bit of variety
Oh it's not boring, just very different from the rainbow coloured hippy I saw floating through the crowd at that anti war demo in 2001....
AH! I bought the hat becuase I liked it and I thought it looked good on me. Can't I have anything without it relating to me being in band?
well sal, you said id gone dull so heres a pic of me colourful and slightly overexposed (self taken). http://flickr.com/photos/daisylou/256620425/ xx
The story about your grandfather is fantastic. I sadly, do not own a top hat, but I shall aspire to get one. Maybe.
