Great and unique black metal band. I've yet to find a band that sounds like them, the keyboards are fucking insane, and their vocals are the sickness. In The Nightside Eclipse is a masterpiece.
Their vocals aren't as sick as some other bands I listen to, but their music is amazing. Both In the nightside eclipse and Anthems to the welkin at dusk rank among my favourite albums of all time. I couldn't go to Wacken because I was being operated on, so I had to miss my last ever chance of seeing them, I guess.
Ihsahn is one of my favourite black metal vocalists. And sucks that you missed them. No one ever comes to Australia
No, I guess for most bands it's way too expensive to go to the other side of the world to play for what I imagine to be very small audiences. Do you know Deströyer 666? They're my favourite Australian band. You should go see them if they ever play near you, they're really cool.
yeh i know Deströyer, i was gonna go see them with my mate but he got the date wrong or some shit. We have some decent local bands playing here, so it's not all that bad. And Opeth have come down a couple of times recently.
INTO THE INFINITY OF THOUGHTS...... emperor are fuckin mint, totally epic riffage with lots of thunder. i wonder if they recorded the thunder from genuine storms or whether it's generated. - but personally i favour darkthrone. what do you think of darkthrone SeveredHeadStoner>>?
I have a couple of their cds, used to be into them but i got over them a while back. Black metal in general isn't really my cup of tea, i prefer more melodic shit nowadays.
but emperor are real black metal.... and not that melodic.. darkthrone recordings are shit, but it's the music that counts for me.
Emperor are one of the few black metal bands i still enjoy. With them go Immortal, 1349, Burzum and a couple of others.
The latest two full-lengths are a bit too much for me... but Nightside and Anthems are among my favourite albums.
Emperor were one of the best Black Metal bands ever. Their demos and first two albums are absolute classics of the genre and I love them. Their last two albums are shockingly bad, I never have been able to understand how a great band could turn to absolute worthless shit so fast. As far as comparison to other Norwegian Black Metal goes, I classify them as being one of what I call the Norwegian Classic Four, the other members being MayheM, Darkthrone, and Burzum. Burzum is my favorite, but they are all truely great bands.
