I'm going to buy a pipe today, but I don't really know how to clean and take care of them and replace screens because I've never owned a pipe before. I just know how to smoke them lol. I'll probably get one of those handblown glass pipes.. any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks
if you're getting glass, dont get a screen. Just smoke out of it and let the resin build up. You might eat shit the first couple times, but its worth it. Cleaning it isn't to hard either. Try and get one with a large carb both for cleaning and bigger hits. If it has a large carb get a thick paper clip and make a scraper with it.
good advice /\ in addition, get a big sock to keep it wrapped up in when you arent using it. easiest homemade case ever
i used a screen in my glass pipe, but id recommend just using a rock or something at first and ya, let the resin build up. keep it in a safe place, and enjoy!
If you get a glass one get a 2nd one in case that breaks so you have a back up. I like brass chamber and ceramic pipes but only got two because the ceramic beaks and I do hash only in one. The brass is 15 yr old and many other have come and gone like glass and ceramic. Back up is important and chamber pipes last and have good airflow. Also make sure the opening under the bowl is nice size for good hits and if a part screws to it make sure it has a good opening too.
^^ not entirely - you just get a little pebble and it acts more or less the exact same way glass filters work...
Pebbles work perfect because they aren't perfectly smooth and wont create an air tight seal. BUT, once there is enough resin it might. I prefer getting a glass piece with a big hole and use brass screens
I've done that too, works like a charm as glass screens are probably $1 to buy and you lose them all the time. I like this method because I keep my glass clean.
go with a glass pipe just because it is a much better smoke, and to clean it a paper cilp will work fine but i find that a set of dental tools work the best for all pipe cleaning needs
