i have been trying to do it for a good few months now. it wasnt until i sat down yesterday with a book and concentrated hard, that i actually managed to master the basic stitches. and woooohoooo i can now crochet a fabric. have been practising from memory dc, slip stitch, half treble, treble...

i find the most intimidating thing is the pattern.... i look at it, and its just a mass or stars and numbers and randomly placed letters! eeeek!

the best thing i think is to get a book that is step by step. there are online tutorials, but i find it easier to learn from a book and not the screen, especially since crocheting on the computer chair is no fun for my back. it just seems more understandable when its down in print.

When i first *tried* to learn how to crochet0.. looking back at it now, i dont know what the hell i was thinking. I wasnt holding the needle or the yarn right... it was just bad.

My aunt came over and taught me how.. and after i learned how to single crochet, the rest came easy. Those books are very hard to understand... but if you sit there and read what it tells you to do, it all makes sense. They confuse the shit out of me when they use abbreviations.. i have to pause everytime they abbreviate something, just to figure out what word they abbreviated! grr!

Im currently triple crocheting a shawl. Its my first and im not quite sure its going to come out alright but ill make it work.

What i really want to do is weave... it looks so much better.
Im sure it'll take forever to learn how... but i can manage...

I learned how to knit all on my own! You can do anything you set your mind to;)

If you can't find anyone to teach you, for about 15$ (plus the cost of a hook and yarn) you can take a class at just about any Michael's Arts and Crafts store and learn how in just three hours. They'll teach you all the basics and get you started on a project. I worked at a Michael's for a couple of years and they offer many different types of art classes.

    Love.

    here try this.

    www.learntocrochet.com
    or www.learntoknit.com
both show u the basics hold to hold the hook and the yarn, and so on,
also the best i learned for patterns, well what i used to do, was basically rewrite the pattern and writing the whole words instead of abbrevations, and now it just comes normally, and i have only been crocheting for about 2yrs and have gotten it down to granny speed!
here look at some of the stuff i made
