The answer is yes, and it's because most of our 'so-called' celebrities have turned to a piece of shit cult called Scientology.

Seriously how fucking dumb could you be to believe than an evil emporer called Xenu froze aliens and killed them on Earth 75 million years ago and implanted the souls of those dead into early humans and if we take anti-depressants we'll be screwed up or whatever else they believe...

How stupid could Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Isaac Hayes, Beck, Catherine Bell, Giovanni Ribisi, Juliette Lewis, Jason Lee, etc. be...

    Is there any non-celebrity Scientologist?

    L. Ron Hubbard was just a mediocre Science Fiction writer who wasn't making enough money off of his books, so what did he do? He created a cult that somehow only attracts Hollywood celebrities...

And now it seems like they're starting to get militant now...

Katie Holmes disappearing for 16 days before falling in love with Tom Cruise,

Isaac Hayes having a stroke and then leaving South Park for religious reasons, but then saying on Opie and Anthony that he didn't ever take their joke about Scientology seriously...

That seems a bit suspicious if you ask me.

Do yourself a favor and don't feed Scientology with your money going to see movies starring any Scientologists.

Oh and another thing, what if Tom Constanten wasn't a Scientologist? He probably would've been with the Dead a lot longer. Think about that for a while.

that's silly. scientology may well be a piece of crap, at least it's neither real science nor worth much as a religeon. but i don't think the executives who decide what stories we get told base their decisions on scientology. more likely on what will most likely buy what expensive toy will most likely get them laid.

humans ARE gullable to political opportunism though. and pseudoconservatives love to keep people coercing each other into denying the connection between priorities and probabilities.

setting up scientology to scapegoat, however unworthy it might be of anything else, is nothing but a smoke screen to distract attention away from the real cause of the shortcommings of what we all experience.

It is silly. Only a small handful of celebs (who cares what they do anyway) have gone for scientology - others have gone for Buddhism, so called kabbalism, and even fundamentalist christianity.

People are no more stupid now than at any period in the past - although that's not saying much.
What I do say is that dumbimng down is a media driven phenomenon, and perhaps also a result of the general increase in pressure in today's world.
Still - there are some extremely clever people out there too.

That's true. There are people who are smart enough to really not bother with it. It's not that I care about celebrities, it's just that I care about the impact that they have on the rest of America. It's the celebrity stupidity that is dumbing down America. It might not just be Scientology, but it is definitely religion in general.

Basically Scientology confirms that people are truly unable to make their own decisions. It's bad enough that in today's world Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are still popular religions. Even other Eastern Religions are having problems. Buddhism can't decide whether to go with the Dalai Lama who rebeled against the communist government of China, or the Panchen Lama who praises the Chinese Government.

It just proves that organized religion in general can't and won't work, because there will always be disagreements.

I guarantee you that in about 10-20 years, Scientology will have a major split, because there will be a disagreement on something. Every religion has gone through one, so it's inevitable.

I dont really think weve dumbed down...

About the celebrity thing, celebs just have made everyone feel like they need what they have and people get their priorites mixed up..I think people arent using the knowledge they have, because well theres really no reason when everything is so easy these days.

I think television is probably more of a factor then anything else. What's on TV is based on ratings not scientology. I don't believe people have lost the physical capacity for intelligent thinking, its more like they would rather watch TV than think and let the TV tell them what to think.

That really is incredibly stupid, proof perhaps that the human race really has dumbed down.

Seriously though, were're probably as stupid now as we've ever been. We are not made stupid by Scientolgy, scientology exists because we're stupid.

Exactly! That's what I'm saying. People can be dumb enough that they will let their individualities be taken over by some stupid set of beliefs. It's just that cults like Scientology just prove that we are dumb enough to allow that to happen. But all religions are guilty of such atrocities, although some have done it worse than others.

Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Ratafarian, Kabballah, Scientology ; they all do they same thing. Seperate humanity and shun others that don't believe in what they believe.

Your question is too "dumbed down", perhaps if you had been more literary we might have had the basis of a debate.
I do not believe Einstein would have written
"seriously, how fuckin dumb is it to assume.... blah blah blah"
Perhaps you get your brain working again if you thought more about it and were not just pandering to the majority of hip forums

Is scientology stupid? Yeah probably, is it proof that humans are dumb? Yeah probably. But mostly it's just your latest dumb celebrity fad, it'll dissappear again in a few years. Celebrities though are not a determiner of how dumb we are. Does it really make sense to claim that the fad religious beliefs of celebrities are so influential as to cause the dumbing down of the human race? They are a symptom, not a cause.

No doubt there are many things Einstien wouldn't have done - but he lived in a different time and culture than today. If Albert had used the word 'fuck' it would have caused major shock waves at that period. It was an era of formality, and yes, bullshit.

And why is Einstien to be regarded as the arbiter of either expression or genius? Others who are proclaimed as genius have used far worse and more deconstructed language - William Burroughs for instance, John Lennon, Lenny Bruce etc etc.

IQ tests are the most popular means of rating someone's intellect, yet they are so fundamentally biased that they test little more than how well one can score on an IQ test. In 1976, I was told that the threshold IQ to be considered a 'genius' was 150. Since then I have heard that number drop to 140, and most recently 125. Genii aren't what they used to be.
The fact that an Australian Aborigine elder who could survive indefinitely in the harsh environment of the outback with nothing but his wits would score low on an IQ test is an example of how meaningless the tests are to me.
As for dumbing down, I say yes, but also say that is not necessarily a bad thing.
There is a lot of literature about the alleged plan begun around the 1930's by the leadership of the US and UK to 'dumb down' the public. A Mr. Dewey was said to be a major figure in this plan. The reason given for such a plan was that it appeared to be the case that the more knowledgeable one was, the more likely they were to vote socialist, which worried the powers that be of the day.
The 'Dick and Jane' books and phonetics were said to be implemented as part of this strategy.
To me, I need only watch some movies from the 30's and 40's and compare the dialogue of the characters with todays level of communication skills. Modern films rarely contain vocabulary at as high a level as the oldies.

On the average I would say that the human race is becoming smarter, healthier, and more spirtually advanced...but also more aware of its shortcomings.

The problem is that the less advanced have the same access to high technology as the advanced. This can have extreme consquences to humanity as a whole.

On the first point, I disagree on all four points. I feel that for many reasons, we are generally becoming less intelligent, weaker, and less spiritual. And ever more willfully ignorant of our shortcomings, because now we have access to so much more evidence of our shortcomings yet we refuse to see them.
Second point. Totally agree. It reminds me of the story of Imhotep inventing writing. Upon showing the Pharoah his marvelous invention, the Pharoah became distraught. He felt that writing would put powerful knowledge into the hands of people who had not been trained on the many cautions, dangers, and pitfalls of its misuse. No longer would someone need to undergo intensive training by the high priests in order to gain access to potentially dangerous knowledge.

a small number of political opportunists, driven by what they expect making everything have to begin and end with little green pieces of paper, are robbing all of us of what our world otherwise could and would be. this has nothing to do with "dumbing down" nor even with belief, any balief, nor lack of it.

it is a grand tragidy on a planetary scall certainly, and one that illustrates our collective gullibility, but it is not the work of any one belief, though certain dominant monotheistic chauvanisms are complicit in it.

this will in time consume itself. it will almost certainly continue to cause harm until it does. how long this will take and how much more damage will be done before then is pretty much at this point a roll of the dice.

    (to paraphrase swami beyondanda):
a general up-wiseing is not only possible but likely, and the paradise of a bun dance won't be brought about by a new pair of dice. nor an old one.
