Hi, I'm a Christian and I'm putting together a Christian FAQ to try to address some of the objections/criticisms/misconceptions of the Christian faith. So I would like to hear from anyone who objects to the Christian faith. Whether you don't believe it, don't understand it, or just don't like it. I would like to hear your big, main, fundamental reason(s) for objecting to Christianity (not trivial/minor details). Please try to keep it to a few simple sentences, rather than long indepth arguments.
ugh there are so many reasons i reject christianity....ranging from this feeling within me that automatically rejects the thought of christianity to scientific reasoning. i will not list them all...but start it off with one reason...not nessessarilly a main reason but a reason all the same. I feel as if, not all, but alot of christians use God and christianity to try and explain alot of things that we, or they, can not yet answer. A commonly used example whould be.... well how was the universe created? Many people think...well i can't think of any possible way the universe could of been created...so it must of been an all mighty and powerfull god. I think this a lazy and quick escape. We advance scientifically all the time and just because we cannot explain something now doesn't mean, as we advance...we won't be able to later. Do i even need to give an example to prove that? yes well thanks for getting me into a ranting mood. theres a wee bit of reasoning.
Hi Dizzy Man My objection is Jesus (pbuh) nor the Holy Spirit Are Gods nor Did Jesus (pbuh) die for my sins.*Peace and love* Yours Sincerely,Cat Stevens
Dizzy man- Dark ages, millions were killed just for not obeying the church... not god... CURCH controled people, governments,- collected money, Good business it was back then. TWO Holy armies fighting in the name of GOD ( it is funny... :S ) from one side crussaders marhcing on jeruslame and form other side Muslims, fighting for GOD, fighting EACH OTHER.... =/ just think about it... Peopel in many parts of the world had differnet Gods,, from water god, to wine god... and as they preyed to them with time, everything went just fine and good as without them. Same hurricanes happened and ecological events, if some tribe that had water god attacked them and they were not enough equiped with arms they lost.... with new generation new Gods came.... same about WALES- what about your naked celebration of Celtic gods.. now its christianity.. whats next ? i hope sober logical thinking
Dizzy ManMay I comment on his post if not, tell me and I will delete it.Gdeadhead420 you can ignore my post if ya wanted the answer only from brother Dizzy man. Well, As ya read in the Bible Jesus (pbuh) did so many miracles that no one can perform it except God or let's say no one except him OK, and there are Christians and non-Christians believe and wrote about these incidents, Accordingly when no one can perform such things! who can give a life to the dead ppl!!!!!! how did Jesus (pbuh) do such things! Jesus (pbuh) said that he did so by God, And he said that this God is Al-mighty and powerful and He created the universe. So,... I hope you got my point. *Peace and love* Yours Sincerely, Cat Stevens
Yeah, well all you guys except Dizzy are WRONG! GREAT SET UP DIZZY! OUR PLAN WORKED! Just kidding. Couldn't resist. Wanted to make it look a Christian conspiracy thing. I'm going to go take more cough syrup now. Bye.
Lack of credibility (proof included). The Bible is full of contradictions, the churches are full of male succubi, and I find it hard to stomach that an all-loving God would damn his beloved children to Hell for all eternity for making a wrong choice, when he himself did not warn us about the danger enough. A mother constantly tells their child that they love them, and constantly protects them from everything, right? Yet God won't even come back every 2,000 years or so to warn the current generation of the perils of evil. That, and if I'm going to Hell, I'd like to be on the side that doesn't get tortured forever. Even if it means fighting for advancement in the ranks of Hell, it isn't much different than this shitty capitalist world anyway. There's just a little less fire, that's all.
Hi Dizzy, I don't object to Christianity. I am a Christian. What I do object to is people who go around calling everyone " brother " and acting holier than Thou. I don't go to church houses. Most of them teach the doctrines of men anyway. My suggestion to others...if you want to know who God is, study on your own, or, with someone who'll talk truth ; www.shepherdschapel.com. You'll often hear Pastor Murray say not to trust even him, not anyone. Study and research. By the way, why do you care why people object to Christianity? Just an after thought. Peace!
And there's the problem right there. It's the wako violent hatemongers like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell that ruin Christianity for everybody else. Not that everyone would be a Christian if not for those guys, but that non-Chrisitnas think of those guys instead of Jesus when the subject of Chrisitanity comes up. Maybe we should go and bomb their homes. Say, any cough syrup left?
My problem with Christianity is the same as my problem with any organized religion: it exists. God, as a concept, is valid. It can carry its own weight if one gives it enough thought. If anything Christianity has done harm to the concept. I don't think that the Christian's faith is typically grounded in logic. It makes claims it can't back up with evidence, making believers in God appear that much more irrational in general. Religion divides people. What would be wrong with just being a human being? You could still live your life as Jesus taught. Did Jesus ever say "Bring me up every chance you get"? Everyone would be much better off if the people who believe in Jesus' teachings just followed them as best they could. Basically, love your neighbor. Surely God can figure out the rest.
Christianity purports (is that the word?) to define god. It is just another shot in the dark, saying that 1, god exists, and 2 thru infinity, god fits these categories, this description. Many christians use god as a tool to segregate the population, to start fights, and to generally accomplish whatever end they want. The bible, along with many churches and preachers, teaches a narrow view of the universe, misrepresents stories as truth, misrepresents words as those of god, and misrepresents logic and reason as something not to be trusted.
I consider myself "keen on Jesus' but i am angnotsic i think he was a wonderful man but im done looking for God. I think the problem many people have is not with christianity but with christians themselves. The problem i think is Jesus offers redemption from sin and therefore attracts alot of sinners who can only focus on their sin, so they sin again and again and find redemption again and again instead of moving past it to become a better person, and those christians once they feel they have been saved tend to think they are better then others and all too often forget...
Xac you're right in SO many ways. We all still sin. Whether you're a Christian or not. When you sin less you shouldn't think you're better than anyone. If you think someone's doing something to destroy their lives you help them. You don't judge them. To me that's just common morality. Not religion.
i dont like the way most christians interpret their own holy book in a way that does them no spiritual service and makes them "holyier than thou". an example- "thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor the likness of anything in heaven above....thou shalt not bow down to them, nor worship them." these idols are preconcieved notions like the sky daddy on his golden throne, and all the rest of christianitys cherished beliefs of truth. they block the opening of the mind which blocks "god". "the legitemate use of images is to express the truth, not to posses it" -Alan Watts
I have no objection to people practicing the religion of their choice, as long as they do not impede on other's freedom to do so as well (or use it as an excuse to act in harmful ways to others), but I will give my reasons for why I do not practice christianity. The concept is contradictory, obviously archaic and mythological, and I can't stand the holier-than-thou attitude that resonates among most of the practicing christians I have met. Sure, the bible contains some good moral lessons, but christianity hardly holds the monopoly on the idea of "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal," and the like. Not to mention the religion has been politicized for far, far to long and as a result has suffered from far to much corruption to be considered pure or true by me in any sense of the word.
Well, I agree with Hikaru, in that the Idea of eternal damnation for many and pleasure for some is not right, and on top of that the largest schism between my beliefs and that of Christianity is that I believe no outside force can save you, only your works and your internal changes can save you from suffering and anything. But that's my belief, think of it what you will.
I'm atheist because I don't think God exists. The universe itself is proof enough to me that God doesn't exist. Billions upon billions of planets, and you Christians are arrogant enough to assume that our planet is the only one with intelligent life on it, because it hasn't been proved otherwise to you. We've explored such a small per centage of the universe as to make that per centage non-existant. Were another intelligent life form to make contact with us then Christianity would be revealed for the sham it is. I don't normally go around attacking religion, but you asked for it, so there it is. I hope that's short enough for you.
i find atheism to be as intellectually lazy as christianity....the universe being a random creation is as unlikely as throwing car parts into the air and having a fully assembled car land back on the ground. there is a method to this madness
Wow. Thanks for that. I dind't knw what i belived, thanks for clearing that up for me. Sorry for the sarcasm, but making such an assumption i think is just lpain wrong. Take the Narnia books (i know I am using children's books to prove a point, but hey), CS Lewis had said that they way he approached them was this. "Let's suppose that there is a land called Narnia. Let's suppose that Narnia is inhabited by talking animals. What woulod Christ be like in that land?" Wouldn't he also be a talking animal? I hope you can get what I am getting at. God isn't a person, place, or anyhting coropeal (to me). God is an essence, love. Yes, that essence binds 3 persons together to make up the Trinity, but God itself is an "it"
