The Secret to Comedy

I can tell you the secret to being funny. I figured it out by myself by studying a multitude of sources centered around the dissemination of humor. But first - does anyone already know. Twenty bucks to anyone who can tell me the answer in the first ten posts.

 

comedy is based on pain

 

Abbot and Costello are discussing comedy:

"Costello, ask me what the secet to comedy is"
"OK. Abbot, what is the secret to..."
"Timing"

 

Yup, timing, and pain. Timing and pain, the secrets to comedy.

Actually, like a grade school teacher, although timing is a perfectly acceptable answer, (and actually more true than mine, which is tongue in cheek), it isn't the one I have written down, so it's wrong.

can you guys explain your idea why you think timing and pain are the secret to comedy? i dont totally understand (well mostly dont understand pain)

laughter is the soul crying

 

when tragedy is laughed at it becomes black comedy. what else can people do in the face of pain but laugh.
my answer is unconditioning your preconditioning. ike seeing the absurdity of speech or asking why a verb is a noun

I disagree. Comedy can be found anywhere and anytime.

Don't talk pish.
There's so many different forms of comedy, so many different ways to be funny - how can you specify the one and only secret to being funny?
I can be funny in different ways, never in my life have I read such rubbish.

Yes, but what he's saying is that there is one secret to comedy, which rules it out as there is one rule to being funny when in actual fact there are various ways...

 

One deep dark secret to comedy is to ignore the serious nature of the subject being made fun of, like George Carlin on video last night........poked fun at about every cuss word known spoken like saying twat in public.
