Atheism and Existentialism

I used to think that existentialists were athiests who had to much time on their hands.
But now, i get it.
So many athiests i know are still plaing the same game, they're still trapped by theism.
It's like when a democrat claims to be a part of the oppostition party...

They've done away with the cosmic santa clause, but they still behave as if there is a naughty and nice list.

They devote so much time to the question of whether god exists or not that it really doesnt matter what their position is, they are still paying homage in one form or another.

I just feel like ive grown beyond caring about deism.

It's almost like continuing the flat or round earth debates...

Shane, you might have a point there. Who cares if God is real? Whats the diff? And would God care whether or not anyone cared? Is God that insecure? I have read that Buddha said the same thing you did. Don't bother wasting time on God... we'll never define it anyway, so why waste time on it. If Gods real, good, if not, good. His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama said, 'It doesn't matter so much what faith you are. My religion is kindness.'

No, i truely do not believe in the existence of a deity.
You might be missing my point.


Think of it this way:

I'm not a republican.
i do not believe what a republican does.

Do i subscribe myself as a non-republican?
No.

Because that's still defining myself on a republican's terms.

So why describe myself as an atheist?
I've already accepted the nonexistence of deity, so why describe myself in theist terms?

I have nothing to prove.
I've already moved on....

So, why argue with theists about the existence of deity?
That's like arguing with a 4 year old about the existence of santa clause.

Not worth my time.

i see no reason to believe there CAN'T be something big, friendly and nontangable. just no reason to believe fanatics of ANY stripe, have the slightest idea what the hell the're talking about, about it.

so there isn't a god. does this mean an atheist can't be a decent, nice person? just because when you die there is no hell to go to if you're "bad" doesn't mean you shouldn't have a conscience..
