I saw them live at the Minnesota State Fair a couple days ago. It was easily the best show I've ever seen. They are going to be around for a LOOONG ass time. Anyone else here see them live?

At the beginning of the show, the lead singer got in a big hamster ball and rolled all around the pit. It was incredible. So many amazing memories from that night.

I saw them twice this summer, in ohio at blossom music center (I think that's what it's called) in Cuyahoga Falls, and then the next day at the state theater in Detroit. It was a life changing experience. I am confident that I will never see another live show even half as good as the one the lips put on. And to answer your questions bluenude, when I saw them, they had people on each side of the stage dressed up as santa clauses and as aliens dancing. They also kept shooting confetti in the air, and blowing up these massive baloons and throwing them in the crowd. They also did a whole bunch of other things but me simply explaining does not do it justice.

As for as the set list goes, they played most of at war with the mystics and yoshimi battles the pink robots. The earliest they went was "she don't use jelly". Which was slightly dissapointing since i was hoping they'd go further back and play stuff off a preist driven ambulance and oh my gawd the flaming lips. I'll end my rant here.

The show was great. I'd only heard The Soft Bulletin a couple times before the show, so a lot of the music was new to me. The first song they played was 'Race to the Finish'. And yes, they seemed to play mostly newer stuff. They ended with a cover of War Pigs. And the show was filled with crazy shit and cool props the whole time. Never a dull moment. I'm not going to tell you much more, it will be way cooler to find out firsthand like I did.

The Flaming Lips are way awesome. I've yet to get into their earlier 80's stuff, but I have everything since '93. "Zaireeka" is amazing....have you guys heard that one, the four cd one? I actually combined them all into one cd--defeats the purpose, yeah, but that way it can be listened to in the car. Definetely way cool of an experience on the four stereos.

Anyways, "The Soft Bulletin" is in my top ten records of all time, i'm sure. And I have probably over 2000 records. Amazing, amazing record.

That being said, the new one was a huge letdown. "Yoshimi...." was pretty much a letdown, too. I kinda want the full on symphonic bliss mess of "The Soft Bulletin". Kudos to them for changing with each record, though, I don't think they've made the same album twice.
