So, I'm flippin' through my new issue of Relix and I come across and article about cover bands. Well, I look in a corner and it has a list of a few bands and the artist's the cover. Anywho, one of the bands listed is Southern Comfort Blues Band. For those of you who don't know why this means anything at all, the Southern Comfort Blue Band is Samson from the hipforums' band. I was just kind of suprised to see a member's band in Relix. Congrats to samson.
Are you effin serious? That is pretty freakin cool, even more so since I had no idea that we were in Relix and learned it here for the first time! thanks for lettin me know, man!
I know man, I was just flippin' through there and bam...there y'all were. You need to go buy a copy and see it for yourself. That's good exposure.
Thanks for the nice words folks - it means alot coming from the forums. I have yet to even see the mention, but I am thrilled to get it. Frankly we get almost zilch respect from our local scene since we dont play the jukebox style Allmans and Skynrd they demand. As for financial windfall, I'll let you know!hehehe I wouldnt mind if it scared up a few more gigs. Mostly I appreciate it because we do the music we love, and have passed up offers to do our shows in a more marketable way. Somehow touring for months on end doing the same popular tunes heard on the radio seemed less appealing than doing the obscure freakouts that we enjoy, even if it means playing less often. None of us want to be in a group that isnt allowed to improvise onstage - thats the best part! We still do the more popular stuff, but I love getting into arrangements from bootlegs and alternate takes that even big fans arent expecting. We also do shows of our original material, traditional & contemporary blues, 60s psych - we try to be versatile. The tribute gigs are the most popular tho, and really bring out the hippiefreaks to the venues. I hope to get a copy of the zine this week when they finally arrive here. Reminds me of one of my fave lines from O Brother "this place is a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere" Thanks again, forum-folks. If it werent for you guys, I wouldnt have ever known!
