Why Is Most Music So Bad Today?

Because there is little or no creativity involved, most songs are just recycled from other songs and the lyrics are all about the same boring bullshizzle. Most bands are also just used to write a few "good" songs and make as much money as possible on one big blowout, like all those crappy boy bands controlled by corporations, when's the last time you heard anything about them?

 

It's become nothing but a game for making money. Cheap, disposable artists pumping out 1 or 2 hits, enough to make money for the record companies, than they disappear.There's no artistry, no craft, just whatever can be done to make them famous.

 

EXACTLY. I'll change that. My band's not going to be greedy mindless slaves to the media.

 

Music sucks now because people have run out of ideas.

 

I'm starting to think another reason is that in the mainstream, people pretty much don't give a shit about anything in a song other than the vocals anymore, so anyone who gives the instruments as much room as the vocals will likely end up doomed to being underground.

 

Popmusic from the eighties is even worse in my opinion.

 

maybe it sucks because you have no idea what your looking for, mainstream music has never been good, just popular thats what makes it mainstream, there are about ALOT of bands that are very talented and still touring and making music

 

very true. Go out and support the local bands in your town. These are people that will play the music because they are good at it and because they love it.

 

Don't just listen to whats on the major radio stations or what gets played 10 times a day on mtv. Theirs loads of good music out there. You just have to put a little effort in to find in.

 

um, if you think music is bad today, AND have posted in this thread, then you arent trying hard enough. you obviously have the greatest research tool in the world at your fingertips, but you are content to let MTV and classic rock radio stations (not to mention people who were teens in the late 60's early seventies) tell you what is cool. Granted the stations playing ONLY THE BEST FROM A CERTAIN ERA are entertaining, but remember, you are only getting like 1% of what was dumped on the public at that time. There is great music now, but the pop machine has had 30-40 years to get better at generating money. Use the internet, its here for you.

 

I hardly like any modern mainstream music, which includes indie. There ae a few exceptions, but not many.

Metal is still good though, most of my favourite metal bands are from the 90s and 2000s. Then there's 60s and 70s music, which I enjoy a lot of. But after that, I dunno, things just weren't captivating me enough anymore.

I do agree that most mainstrem music is uninspired now. But there are some bands that are really reminiscant of the good rock'n'roll music of the generations before us
LIKE ...Wolfmother, if you havent heard them . you should theyre a mix of Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Some songs you can hear a little Jethro Tull & even in One Song ,Apple Tree is a little punk rock & his voice sounds alot like Sid vicious. The lyrics are mysterious & really thought out and all the songs are Absolutely worthy of being mainstream hits

I hope this is the start of the musical revolution of my generation because right now there is nothing but curruption and corporate crap in the nusic industry & theres not much to inspire my generation to get off their asses and do something productive for society not even theyre parents who were mostly around during the 70's.

 

yeah, I heard all that "they sound like zeppelin" shit too. but they really don't. I've been into Zeppelin for years, and when I compare them to wolfmother I just have to start laughing. Wolfmother is so simplistic when compared to zeppelin it almost makes me laugh. They are nothing like zeppelin at all, they only happen to sorta sound like them a little bit. other than that, no. They are just another over hyped band that will fizzle out in another year or two.

 

I wasn't saying they were led zeppelin truthfully noone can really live up to them in my opinion but Wolfmother is a good way away from most music today and it does have a mixture of older bands but it is a modern band and has to appeal o the tastes of this generation
other bands that really have an old sound are The Colour & westborn ...it's not about Sounding JUST like those legendary bands .. its about capturing that sound that feeling of musicc then

Comparing a band to zeppelin is a fucking joke, any cover band for the most part is a joke, i dunno if those are cover bands that your referring too, but the reason why they were so good is becuase they had the talented minds to come up with the great music that they did. Anyone can fuckin copy it and play it, it's the fact that someone had the mind to come up with it.

Wolfmother is crap
they just play off of other bands' sounds
they sound like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and White Stripes in a fucking blender

 

because its more about the appearance than it is the music now, in my opinion.
