I'm moving to Canberra with my GF in January for work. We don't know anyone who lives in the ACT. I've looked on the net, but I can't seem to get much information on stuff like:

    Suburbs to avoid
Good suburbs (we will be renting, at least for the first year)
    Things to avoid in general
    Cafe's
How someone from out of town can go about getting weed.
    Restaurants
    Nightclubs
    Social Clubs
    Live Music
    Shopping
    Places to exercise
    Places to visit
    General advice about heating
    Gym's that aren't a rip off.
    Sport
    Transport
Places to go bushwalking/Mountain bike riding
Info about ANU and the University of Canberra social scene (I may go back to uni for a semester)
and just some other general advice.

And a whole heap of other stuff I haven't even thought of yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

Firstly you have my sincerest sympathies. I have lived there for 15 years, so I know the place very well. Its like a furnace in the summer and a fridge/freezer in the winter. But I'm not going to sit here and answer all your questions in one reply. Maybe a few over the next week or so. Bushwalking and mountain biking, both very good in Namadgi National Park go to the Visitors Center just the other side of Tharwa. They will help you out there. About heating, Have it!!! also cooling for summer. Be aware electric fan heaters are both ineffective and expensive to run. Reverse cycle aircon is the best. Followed by.......Gas I think. Sport, its everywhere, its the sportiest place you will find. Shopping, its also the most over retailed place in the country. Weed? your going to ANU aren't you! That will do for now PM me if you want more.
