Just got my nip pierced today. Only one though I'm a chicken to do both! So, I've read all the posts on the site about nip piercings but was wondering a few things. 1. Can I use regular table salt to soak? 2. How can you tell if it's infected. And after how long, if an infection shows up, should you talk to your doctor? 3. When washing, should I only wash the outside, or move the bar to each side so I can clean inside. (in other words, on the bar itself not the balls) 4.Anything I really need to know. That's all I got for now. Maybe I'll post a picture later if I get the nerve!
Awesome. I used regular table salt for all of my piercings, and they healed nicely. I don't have a nipple piercing, but I did see my sisters belly button get infected. It got really, really red and sore and puss leaked out of it. Everytime she moved it more puss shot out. Then again, she didn't take care of it. She had to take it out eventually. If it gets infected try more salt soaks, if the infection gets worse or doesn't go away, go to a doctor. When you wash it, you should soak it for about 10-15 minutes (That's what I did for my piercings) in salt water at the highest temp you can stand. After, use a q-tip to clean any crusties from the bar and balls. Then, get a fresh q-tip and apply some bacitracin or whatever your piercer gives you/tells you to use. Then, move your bar back and forth with CLEAN fingers. Make sure the meds get inside the piercing. My best friends mom wore halved tennis balls over her nips the first couple nights to bed so they didn't get hooked on anything when she rolled. You might want to try that....I hear it hurts to get them caught. But, I've never had nip piercings, so the care might be different for them....though, I've never heard of it being much different.
I use regular table salt for all my piercings too. When I started to get a slight infection in my left nipple (after catching it on a box with a computer monitor in it...it tore the skin), I soaked it in Epsom salt for 3 days straight and it cleared right up and then I went back to salt water soaks....my piercer says absolutely no bacitracin or neosporin at all, not even A&D ointment......I have used neosporin anyway to keep things lubricated and it helped my hood piercings heal with in 2 weeks......
What was it like getting the actual piercing done? Did it hurt very much? I plan on getting mine done in the next couple of months.
1. Can I use regular table salt to soak? I have used regular table salt and healed my piercings just fine. However, the last piercing I got(nips) were soaked in sea salt because the piercer told me that iodine in table salt actually kills living tissue(which is why you use iodine on cuts to kill bacteria). So, the iodine actually slows healing. Sea salt did seem a little better, although it could have been my imagination. 2. How can you tell if it's infected. And after how long, if an infection shows up, should you talk to your doctor? Red, extreme sensitivity, redness radiating outward especially through capillaries ect(this is bad), pus(not to be confused with normal lymph). Get to the Doc ASAP if it is a systemic infection, otherwise just keep the thing super cclean and keep soaking 4.Anything I really need to know. Keep it out of peoples' mouths until it is healed.l
My nipples were the most painful of all my piercings, but very much worth it. They are pretty and my hubby bought me some gold and diamond horse shoe circular barbells to decorate them with......... It was a sharp pain when the actual piercing took place, but it went away in like 5 or 10 minutes. Like getting your ears pierced.
I have had both nips pierced. Definitely use the non-iodized sea salt. It's easy to find at the grocery store. Do not pick at the crusties (I know it's tempting), use a q-tip after soaking/showering to GENTLY remove the crusties. Do NOT wiggle the barbell around. That does nothing but irritate the piercing. Sliding the barbell back and forth will actually pull crusties into the healing piercing and irritate and contaminate. Just keep the crusties to a minimum and leave it alone. Don't put anything on it like neosporin or bacitracin-those things are too harsh. As long as you aren't mud wrestling or something, the salt soaks and normal showering should be enough to keep the piercing clean and happy.
WAHOOO... got the second one done today. Was only planning on going in for a checkup but I decided what the hell. I hated to favor just one nip. Cost loads of cash but as long as they heal well I'll be uber happy. I also bought a big thing of H2Ocean. I've been soaking in table salt until Today when I knew I could get to the shop and get some solution. I am so SO excited and can't wait till they heal so I can play with them. As for now I'm strictly hands off. I don't touch them at all except to clean. And before I clean I make absolutely sure that I wash my hands first. Under the fingernails even. (I'm too proud to let them get infected) So far, the first one is doing extremely well. It started doing the peeling thing today and the color is a little dark. Almost grey/blue but I think that's normal. Swelling has gone down and it has quit bleeding. Honestly, I haven't had ANY pain at all. (Unless I hit it, but, getting hit anywhere hurts!) I keep soap out of it all together. When I wash my hair I let the soap flow down my back and I also keep regular body soap away from the breast. (I figrue it gets cleaned enough from my salt scrub and solution I don't need to use soap. My boobies aren't too big anyway!) Also, I got a curved barbell in them. The people who pierced them said that a straight barbell wouldn't work on my breast due to the nipple shape (don't understand that!!) and I've heared that rings are horrible because they move and get infection inside. I must say that I think the rings are a little tight. I'm not sure yet because the swelling may not have gone down all the way. I was told that you should be able to see some of the bar... but I can't. However, this may be because it's a curved bar! The one I got done today has blead a lot! At first I thought it wouldn't quit bleeding but it slowed and now it has blead only twice... however, this is more than the other one did. The first one did not bleed at all. OK, So, my main point 1. anyone use H2Ocean? Any tips or tricks to using it? Should I just spray and go or must I use a q-tip and scrub the ring itself? 2. Does it seem like the ring is too tight even though it is curved? I can't see the bar but the balls are sticking out nicely! 3. Is it typical for a nipple piercing to bleed heavily at first? I know my first one gave of blood the first 3 days but then it quit! 4. Also, this may be gross but, I had a little piece of white gooey stuff, I think it was actually skin but I'm not sure. It was white, almost the texture of a booger (I know, it's the only thing I can think of) and at the end it had a little black spot. Anyway, after cleaning it a few days I decided it should be pulled off. It's not a crustie so... I don't know what it was. But when I pulled it kind of tore away from the skin. (not bad though, don't think I'm messing with it or anything!) So, is it possible that this was just a little piece of skin that was from the actual piercing? I also had this issue with my naval! 5. I actually looked at the needle today and oh my god! That freaked me out. I couldn't even take that deep breath they make you take untill I calmed myself down. It looked like it had a screw on the end. Scary stuff!
I've had very bad experience with H2O stuff, it gave me a painful infection. Also, my peircers have alway told me to stay away from table salt and just use sea salt. Your boogey thing just sounds like a normal part of the healing process, I have 12 piercings, ( both nipples, septum, 6 in my ears, monroe, nose, and hood) and I use the leave it the hell alone method, I clean mine everyday for the first week then leave it to do its thing. And trust me if it gets infected you'll know.
A friend of mine used that stuff....or something named pretty similar, he didn't like it at all. He said his piercings just FELT more clean using a regular salt soak. You should definitely use a q-tip no matter the way you go....to get rid of the crusties from the ring. My belly button ring was a little tight at first. After I worked it around a bit and after it had healed, it felt a little more loose. I've never heard of it....A few of my friends have theirs done....and they never bled that I know of. If your worried about staining your bra or something, buy some of those pads pregnant women use for leaking breast milk. You can find packages of like 10, I think. Totally normal. That's why you need your q-tip while cleaning....to remove that stuff. When it dries on your jewelry and you try to move it around the piercing whole, that stuff can get in there and cause infection, or can HURT real bad if you didn't soak the piercing long enough to get it really soft. And you went through with it anyway....you're a soldier! With my first piercing....belly button....I looked at the needle and fainted....I was 14. My mom made me go back to the hotel (we were on vacation) and I begged her to take me back the next day. She did....and, again, I looked at the needle, but the guy let me calm down (I didn't faint again) then he did the piercing.
hope the gold is at least 14kt, or youd be better off without them. sea salt should definately be used over table salt. as posted, table salt will kill off skin cells along with bacteria, which will slow healing down vastly. much like using alcohol based cleaners. sure, theyll kill bacteria nice and good. but they kill all those developing skin cells too. ive heard many good things about h2ocean.. although it doesnt exist where i live so i cant give any personal comment.. and screw on the end of the needle? on the opposite end? if you have internally threaded jewellery this may of been the case to aid in jewellery insertion
