I've been out of highschool for.. just over a year now. I was enrolled at a University just part time, taking a few classes.
Just recently, I started getting piles of mail from colleges... most of them are Ivy League Colleges, or private colleges. I haven't gotten anything from any public Universities.
But, literally, I'm getting things from 5-10 colleges a day, the most I've gotten was last week, with 12 mailings of little envelopes, huge folders, pamphlets, brochures... and I even got a box with a present in one. The postman must hate coming to my house!
I am smart, and a good student, but by no means spectacular enough to be recieving all this junk. They're wasting their money, and out of every thing I've recieved, I've only kept like 5... just for the off chance I do decide to go to a 4 year full time.
I've e-mailed 3 different colleges specifically asking how I was put on their list, one said they are not allowed to answer that question, another said it was a mistake, and the other said they were interested in me because of my extra curriculars in highschool (which, I have no clue how they'd know about that!).
Honestly... this is ridiculous, they should be spending their money on really good highschool students, or something.
Has this happened to any one before?? Or, am I just special, or something? lol.

I got innundated with them all through high school. The funny thing was, it was mostly from really crappy schools- with a special focus on crappy religious schools. Guess they didn't get the part where I checked off the Jewish box.

I only got a few from decent schools that I was considering, like NYU, Duke, and Emory. From them I got huge course selection books and the mega brochures that were more like books. Apparently they got my name from my AP scores.

I tried to call and get my name off of all the lists but for every college that stopped sending me stuff, another would pick right up. Gross.

Have you, in the past year, done something like take SAT/ACT tests? Have you used any search engines for scholarships? Basically, have you done anything that a normal person considering university full time would do and that would collect personal data about you? Some of those search engines are somewhat anonymous, but some ask for your full info...

I get TONS of that stuff as well. I'm a pretty good student, so my high school seems to have sold every college in America my address. :p

i failed almost everything in highschool and was sent to a second chance program. and still i get about 8-10 pamphlits, letters, applications, and brochures from about 8-10 different colleges every week. usually one or two a day. once i got 13 things in the mail and 4 of them were the exact same thing from the exact same college. I just think they get our names from calling lists and start sending us shit. i was getting calls and letters to sign up for credit cards when i was 14.
