Exactly what I was thinking. Slayer was awesome and so was Slipknot and also Black Label Society. Probably Slayer though.

I have seen Metallica twice live, for the Load and Reload tours. While I prefer their older material, how they played their (then)new stuff and making it sound much better than on the albums, as well as the overall intensity of the shows, has made me realize they are fantastic in live situations.

In terms of superb musicianship, Dream Theater comes to mind, especially when James LaBrie's voice is in a good condition.

 

i can't stand james labrie. i like most good power metal, but he just shits me.

Dude the best live act is Maiden but i would also say Rhapsody aren't too far behind. But then again i ain't seen a Gwar show, sounds like fun man!
