Ok, so Pavement was Matador's (I think at least) biggest name during pretty much all of the 90's and now Interpol seem to have taken that up that role.
Which do you prefer? In my opinion, Interpol can't even hold a candle to my beloved Pavement.

i prefer interpol, but like someone has already said you cant really compare them musically. interpol sound alot more like other types of music i listen too, and i wasnt really into much music when pavement started, so im still sort of learning about them.

picked Interpol because "Turn On The Bright Lights" is one of my favorite albums of this decade ....and the Pavement album I have is not in my top ten of 90's albums :p

not comparable. neither are that original, but pavement is a little bit less hero worship. interpol are just boring NYC hacks; one of the worst commercial "indie" bands out there, imo.

I just ruined the 50/50 status. I kinda wish I could've voted for both. It's really close. I don't really listen to that much Pavement anymore, but I used to think they were the best thing since sliced bread.

Pavement, used to listen to them all the time and still have a special place...Interpol doesn't sound bad to my ears, but seem exactly like a Joy Division cover band.

Interpol isn't that great. I thought Pavement was overatted, too, but I'd pick them over the New York comers anyday.

Interpol think they're so cool posing in their black suits and aviator sun-glasses. All their songs and both their albums sound identical. They have absolutely no skill in writing lyrics and they use all the same guitar chords.

If anyone was really doing their research, they'd check out the Editors instead of Interpol.

i think interpol are amazing. i see the joy division similarity, but i really don't think it's anywhere near the point of mimicry.

i have crooked rain crooked rain and while I really, really enjoy about 3/4 of the songs, it's nothing compared to TOTBL or even antics.

and yes interpol do have some of the worst lyrics ever. but i love them.
