Anyone else disappointed in our "Leader" for his not attending the World AIDS Conference yesterday? What, he couldn't make it to TORONTO?? What a huge mistake.. his handlers really dropped the ball on this one! The entire world now thinks that Canada's Leaders don't care about AIDS!
Hi Icedteapriestess: Sorry, don't want to correct you, but, he is NOT our leader.. that’s an American mentality (no offence to Americans, but its the way many of them view their prez), and its not true.. See, we (well, not me - I went NDP) voted him in... we gave him his job.. he works for us... he is our bitch.. and if he screws up as much as he has constantly been screwing up, we should simply fire him... His job is to listen and do what we want.. he is here to represent us, not lead us... Perhaps someone should remind him of this, and if he doesn't agree... he should leave.
It does PORTRAY that to the world in general though. The conferance is in TORONTO... and the leader of our country doesn't even bother to attend? It doesn't put out a good message. People and leaders from all over the world attended, but Harper couldn't be bothered? And if he is concerned about AIDS, don't you think a good way to show the world that would be to go to the World Conference about AIDS, which is being held in his own backyard?
I don't agree. Can't see how he would be "mobbed" more than the other VIPs who bothered to attend. I think its disrespectful of him not to attend the conference, which was happening in his own backyard, regardless of how much money Canada is giving or not giving to the cause. He should have at the very least made an appearance. AIDS isn't just an African problem.. its a world wide problem. AIDS is everywhere, not just the poor areas of the world. AIDS doesn't effect Canada? It doesn't effect the UK? Something needs to be done on a GLOBAL level... hence the fact that it was a WORLD Conference. Think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
i disagree...AIDS is everyone's problem ..even 'shrub' harper's , you know ,shrub, as in little bush.........canada did well to host the conference and we should set example by at least our prime minister showing up ........hell,even my next door neighbor went and toronto is 1000 miles away.
1. They do not change their behaviour because: a)the catholic church has brainwashed them to think that condoms are evil; b)People will get infected through a cheating spouse/unsuspecting mother and do not know they are infected. 2. They do not have our chance to have insurance to pay (in part) for prescription. 3. Africans were (possibly) infected by whites: Source:http://www.gibbsmagazine.com/Where%20AIDS%20Came%20From.htm 4. It's incredibly selfish to refuse to help people in need when we have the ability to. But yeah, Harper is an ass. I think he didn't go because aids is mostly associated with homosexuality, and we all know his view on that...
Not to mention that there are a LOT of civil wars. Guerillas invade a villiage, rape/kill the women and just plain kill the men. Lots of women are infected via being raped by a HIV positive man.
So true... Yeah, I heard that they were finalizing the deal... You seem to forget that Québécois have quite a violent past: Les Patriotes, Le F.L.Q. ...we are not innocents. What? You were there?
I've stopped worrying about what the rest of the world thinks of Canada and our leaders. I got sick and tired of that u2 guy (boner or whatever his name is)telling martin (joke of a leader may I add) what to do, and always kiss assing him. Since Harper has been in office, I've yet to see anything that even hints the idea of him selling out Canada to the States And I voted Harper in the last election and probably in the next one as well. Living in Ontario I've had it with the fiberal party (thanks to mcguinty's stupidity) NDP needs to dump layton for me to even think of giving them my check at the polls next. Green, good possibility. I guess it comes down to how close the polls are between the Cons and Fibs.
Well, you obviously aren't looking close enough then. ie: Proposed softwood lumber deal which gives a billion dollars in illegally collected tariffs to the United States while at the same time undermines NAFTA's dispute resolution mechanism.
It wasn't only the Pierre Laporte accident. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLQ http://blackrod.blogspot.com/2005/08/history-lesson-for-paul-martin-about.html http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1546923 http://www.crimelibrary.com/terrorists_spies/terrorists/flq/6.html So I'm sorry, but the F.L.Q. wasn't just a bunch of drunk guys. Their ideals were good. Their methods were not.
I in no way care for Harper but wanted to make a comment on his not being there for the conference. I do believe our health minister was there. That would show that Canada does indeed care about the conference. Who is the more qualified politician when it comes to health? I would think the health minister over Harper. Someone wondered if Harper was off "selling off Canada down in Washingon". Actually, he was up in the Arctic, making it well known to the world, that Canada's sovereignty as a country is not at question and neither is the land up north... or the water. With all the current squabbles with Denmark, Russia, and the US over the area, he is out doing what he should be... standing up for Canada. So he was not at the conference. How many countries leaders were there? How many sent represenatives? I think it was blown out of perportion.
