Early this morning I've had the best barefoot walk of my life. In the Wenatchee valley, there is what's called the "Apple Capitol Recreational Loop Trail" and it's 13 miles long. I walked the entire thing in 5 hours (12:30am - 5:30am) at a steady pace. It was amazing, because I saw so many new things! First, I stood in the middle of the walking bridge that goes over the train, and looked out right as the train flew below me, it was a rush! Then down the trail a way I saw this huge 4 foot flame shoot out of some sort of exhaust from a building, hooray for burning. Further down the trail was a statue that I've never seen before, it was of a dog-person carrying a fish, surrounded by jumping fish (luckily the artist wasn't stupid enough to put shoes on him!). Then I saw a frog, which wasn't very common in my area, sitting in the drinking fountain. Later on I saw a skunk, which was neat because I've never seen one in real life before! I immediately froze in place as it wandered by - it didn't even notice me, luckily. I saw another one right before I crossed a bridge, and it dove into the bushes. After that, about half way through the loop, I saw a shooting star! All of these great things in one night, I'm so very glad I took the walk. It was so refreshing, and cleansed the mind a bit too! My paws held out quite nicely, not a single blister or sore! Only problem now is that I'm not gonna be able to walk for a little while, heh. Anyway I just thought I would share that with you, enjoy!
Horray for a great barefoot adventure story! Thanks for the inspiration- makes me want to go for a long barefoot walk soon.
Great adventure ! I haven't done a long BF hike in the dark but think it sounds exciting. Skunks and racoons are active at night and there must be other creatures you wouldn't see in the daytime. The shooting stars are another highlight I forgot about. All my recent hikes have been in the afternoon hours and I've been lucky enough to spot snakes, spiders, frogs, ducks, geese, wild turkeys, and many many squirls. Last week I even caught sight of a 5 inch slug with antenna on it's head (never saw anything like it before) I must make an evening hike before the weather changes and there are too many leaves on the ground. Question: did you bring a flashlight to help you see the terrain or were you able to trust your soles to get you through everything? I'm sure you didn't bring any shoes and neither would I.
Absolutely no shoes! No flashlight either. I didn't step on a single painful thing! Not even a blister or sore when I was done~
that is a great story !! thanks for sharing. one can see many things on a hike and made all the better by doing it barefoot. peace out, bob
awsome! Days/nights like that are so great. I love those days where you are able to see so many wonderful things in nature and forget about day to day life, where it's all passed by. I loved reading about that! Thanks for posting it!
