So, I heard somewhere that if you use a lighter to light your weed, especially with a pipe or bong where you have to relight for each hit, that you're inhaling the butane or whatever and it's bad for you. Is that true? I've been wondering if I should switch to matches...

Oh, and has anyone ever used a lens with the sunlight to light (vaporize, really) your weed? I saw something like that online a long time ago, looked pretty cool, but I never tried it. Smoking with the sun...how sweet is that?

Id just stick with the lighter, if that stuff is true then the same can be said about inhalng sulphur from some matches. I like to bust out the BBQ lighter every now and then depends on the size of the bowl.

    Peace - J

Ive used matches. You light them, wait a few seconds, then put it on the bowl. If you dont it will taste like straight up shit. I dont really know about all the health risks etc but it works pretty good and seems to last perfect for one good hit. They dont go out easily either. Try it :)

True, but the sulfur burns off in a second or so...the butane in a lighter is always there. I just want to know if it's actually bad for you.

if you can hone it down right, you can keep your weed at the right moisture and texture that you could pack it(assuming you pack it right) and light it once, and keep hitting it without having to re-light. It's worth a shot... Ive done it when a lighter was running low.

Yes, pack it tight and don't waste any time between hits, and the sweet, tasty greens will keep burning.

at the rainbow gathering i got used to taking solar hits with a magnifying glass all the time because we'd be outside all day anyway and it was sunny every day. the brightness of the focal point of light hurts your eyes though and may be damaging in the long run. but all you breathe is weed smoke.. no butane, no match head, no match stem..

how would you inhale butane, all the butane would burn off and what didnt would ignite in the pipe or whatever . if it were true then you could breath fire if you blew into flame. i dono if this sounds right im kinda high

once i didn't have a lighter so i used to a match to light a bowl. it was unexpectedly better as in flavor, harshness.. um i guess overall smoke was better with matches as opposed to a lighter.

Isnt it the butane that gives us the flame? If it is then surely all the butane is burnt away when the flame is lit?

from my experience the matches go out if you inhale fast and for a long time. lighters are more convenient i think, either way youre inhaling the smoke so I dont see much difference between the two

The butane will burn, so you won't inhale it, the sulphur will burn, so you won't inhale it... When the lighter doesn't work (like when, you only get a spark but no flame and you try again) you will inhale some butane... but then again, when your matches go out, you will inhale some of the smoke that comes off it, and that's bad for you as well...

For a joint it won't matter, for a pipe, bong, chillum etc, it will a bit... but those are better for your health than a joint anyway, because you're not smoking tobacco and paper....

i dont think the amount of butane or sulfur you inhale will be enough to cause any problem. the shit we breathe in the crappy poluted air will be far worse
