I'm looking to get into starting some yoga, but I checked out all the local place and it seems pretty expensive if I were to take classes. I was wondering if there was anyone who could reccommend maybe a website or something free online that I could check out to kind of get me going on my own. Any help I could get here would be great. Thanks a lot...
Whatever you read and however you stretch, know the following things: 1. The actual stretching that people are doing is called 'asanas,' for instance, hatha yoga is merely a method of preparing the body to meditate. They are incredible for you, but there are not the full encompassment of Yoga. 2. Yoga means, literally, 'Union,' the word religion means, literally, 'to bring together.' The point is that Yoga is a method of uniting your spiritual form and the universe around it. 3. As a beginner, you're in a unique position to become the most powerful yogi ever. You simply have to be humble and practice consistently. Notice I did not say constantly, but consistently, or in a routine. Here are some tips: When you breathe in, think "Ham" or "Hum" in your mind. When you breathe out, think "Sah." This is called mantra and its a key part of Yoga. Once you can do this for a while, you'll be stronger. Sit still and self-supported for a half hour, twice a day. This will make you much, much stronger. Instead of paying for an expensive class, find a cheap book with a description of any Yoga poses in it, and practice them yourself. Pick 3 basic ones and you can spend a lifetime getting stronger from those 3 only. good luck and Namaste
