Is there a hippy beach town anywhere?

I'm looking world-wide for a hippy/beach community...does anyone know where the real deal is? I'm looking for a cheap place to live, with mellow people and the bbq/hang out lifestyle...if you have any leads, please let me know...I'm doing fine here in California, but it's WAY too expensive here to live carefree...don't be shy, any tips will help...

 

Pacific Beach, Northpark, Southpark or Hillcrest.depends on what you like to do. I'm very liberal but I don't like any of the more liberal towns.

 

santa cruz, monterey, bodega bay, bollinas i think it's called. and then mostly up along coast highway one north of fort ross but south of where it merges back into 101 north of there. or at least that area along in there used to be that last time i was over that way which has been a few years.

also the coast once you get up into oregon arround brookings and up that way.
but then that's oregon.

personaly i'd avoid anything further south then san louis obisbo/big sur. but then that's me. (i don't much care for tropical/hot climates, or excessive densities of population either)
