Is there a hippy beach town anywhere?

I'm looking world-wide for a hippy/beach community...does anyone know where the real deal is? I'm looking for a cheap place to live, with mellow people and the bbq/hang out lifestyle...if you have any leads, please let me know...I'm doing fine here in California, but it's WAY too expensive here to live carefree...don't be shy, any tips will help...

Byron Bay, NSW, Australia. Surf, Hipsters n all that stuff. Close to Nimbin spossed to be the hippiest place in all of aus.

welll...some people will think I'm lettin the cat outta the bag, but you need to check out folly beach, sc. Just about 10 miles from downtown....we've got a nice little community of artists and musicians. I have had people tell me that this place reminds them of SoCal back about 40 years ago.....and we do get some surf!! Best kept secret on the east coast

I love folly beach. iv only been there twice tho, but its really cool
