Whatd you all think of this movie? I really enjoyed it, and actually just picked it up on DVD. The one with extras was only a few bucks extra, definitely worth it.

I went into this movie with low expectations but was blown away. I think its message is definitely something that needs to be heard. I loved it. I actually saw it two days in a row in the cinema, I loved it so much.. :D

Saw it for the first time with some good friends of mine the other night....and this happened to be during the first time experiencing a new wonderful trip if you catch my drift. I dont recomend movies this heavy for anyone with a head full of trippy thoughts, what a long sleepless night! Anyway, V is awesome, I remember what he says about the inspector something like "all I am waiting for is you inspector....I needed you" a line that has more meaning than a lot realize I think.

The Girl, cast a sensual spell across this entire film.

Her sensual spell was so hypnotic that it stole every scene and completely deflated "V's" cleaver verbal wit.

"V", like all comic-book super-heroes, when placed next to the healthy natural sensual energy of The Girl, comes across as nothing more than the frustrated phantasy of neurotic, repressed, and neutered teenage boys.

Yet, despite the film's effeminate weakness for dramatic stylization and hyper-choreographed scenes, there was a political message.

Unfortunately, the cautionary tale about religio-politics was secondary to the film's hidden political message, which is that this generation is so weak and disempowered, it seriously turns to comic-book heroes as symbolic archetypes of their salvation.

    Pathetic.

Fortunately, The Girl was real flesh and blood, and at least gave these hero-worshiping neutered boys some good wet-dreams.

If I had known The Girl was Natalie Portman, I wouldn't have been so suprised, because Natalie has been projecting a powerful feminine sensuality since she was a kid.

    Now I know.

All in all, "V" is the best comic-book to film adaptation that I've seen yet.

I love this movie; and I agree with it's political message; i've read the graphic novel it's based on and the graphic novel had a bigger plot, but that probably would've made the movie too long. You don't need to be a super hero to stop a bad government, milions of people who weren't super heroes have done it before... and we can do it again without superheroes.
It was inevitable that V for Vendetta as going to be a graphic novel, because graphic novels have been increasing in popularity, so it's likely that the amount of people who have (or may in the future) read V for Vendetta will be pretty equal to the amount of people who have read George Orwell's 1984.

V for Vendetta is the only comic-book adaptation whose comic archetypes have the potential for connecting with stiffled social concerns.

I wouldn't be suprissed if this is one of those rare films that, not dispite its obvious caricatures, but because of them, become more meaningful to us as the future descends.

For example, I remember at first I thought WaterWorld was a little too comic-booklike, but now it connects more each time I see it.

V for Vendetta has those potential elements in it, and Natalie Portman doesn't hurt either.

The movie thoroughly kicked ass, however.

That was a powerful scene, when at the peak of a rising verbal crescendo, V wheels, and strikes like Zoro, his initial across the wall.

V is patterned after Zoro, who likewise was a masked and caped hero of the people who was also eloquent and ironic, but not so neurotic.

If you've heard of Acen - Anime Central (giant convention in Chicago), there was a guy there dressed as V. It was amazing.
