I've never really known what those are for.... I'm not big....I'm still at about 140....and my belly is pretty close to me, I think, anyway. But, I've been having some back pain. Is that what those belts are used for? Or are they for keeping stretchmarks at a minimum? My mother, nor any woman in my family/friends have ever had one while pregnant....so, they can't really tell me what they're for or if they work at what they do. Would a large ace bandage do the same? Or, do they just hurt baby?
I really should have had one for my enormous belly. You are almost there! I would save the money and use an ace bandage if you feel like you need the support! Plus I really don't know how much help, or don't help for that matter!! You must be getting so anxious to have your baby!! These last few weeks will fly by, I promise!!
Yes! I'm very excited. I'm hoping she'll be here really, really soon....or atleast I hope it seems that way.
I worked all through my pregnancy... i was in the upper 150s in the end (which isnt too far off from you) and had bad back pain... it helps somewhat. Honestly I felt more comfy with it off. My mom gave me one for xmas from motherhood maternity. I don't know if maybe somewhere else makes a better one. What was wrong with it was the itchy velcro band would scratch my belly. Otherwise, I prob would have worn the belt more because it did give some good lower back support before the velcro got weird.
I wore one of those elastic and velcro maternity belts for the bladder pain because I carried Jenny so low, and she dropped so early in my pregnancy. It worked great for that little problem. I saw my chiropractor for the back pain and help my girls to turn head down when each of them wanted to lay sideways/transverse instead.
Don't wrap yourself in an Ace bandage. It may cut off you circulation. It is not meant for Maternity support. I had these belts when I was pregnant. Mainly because I had constant contractions, and went into labor numerous times in each pregnancy WAY too early. I was on bedrest, but if I had to go out, I was supposed to put on the belt, according to the directions given by my doctor (and the doctor gave me the belt and billed the insurance agency) I had to put it on while lying down and had a place to wear it, to help with my Irritable Uterus. I HATED it. It was hot, and kind of tight, and it never felt comfortable. Moon was born the summer of 88. It was the hottest, driest summer on record in Chicago. We went, I think, several months where the daytime temperature never got below 90 degress and nighttime never got below 85 or something. Of course, we didn't have central air, and it was SOOOOOOOOO hot. I rarely went out, as I was on bedrest, but on occasion, I had to. Dr visits, the occasional visit to a freind, who would be OK with my lying on the couch, and the LLL meetings I NEEDED to stay sane. If you are having lots of back pain, or are still having non-Braxton Hicks contractions, talk to you HCP about this. UNless you have a bladder problem, it won't releive the constant need to go. Boogiemama had a situation where she needed this, but most babies don't drop that early (mine did, too, since they thought they were going to be born in my second trimester, but the belt didn't help my constant need to pee. ) These things are not all that comfortable, especially during a summer pregnancy. But, talk to your doctor and see what she says.
