Anyone use bittorrent? I found a seinfeld site (stanthecaddy.com) with videos, but their all in bt format. So, i found season 1 and 2 for download, and got to it. Well, It's slow, slow as a mother fucker. I don't know if it's the lack of users online, but right now I'm getting anywhere from 3-13kb per sec download, and it's a 787 mb avi file. Do any bt users know whats up? Other users on the caddy forums are download at reasonable rates, but I'm considerably slower. On kazaa, or similar programs, this would maybe take me two hours or three hours. So whats going on?
I use bit torrent for ISO downloads of linux. Sometimes they are unbearably slow, but I'm not exact to why..possibly too many users all downloading the same thing?
It's still pretty slow, but it's up around 14-20 kb a sec, whereas most of the time last night it was 1-7, at best 13 or 14. I took a while to connect too. Anyways, does anyone know the legality of BT?
I'm pretty sure bittorent is illegal. As to why it's so riduculously slow, I have no idea. Before I found IRC I used bt quite a bit, but now after having seen the light it's unbearable.
Seen what light? I tried mirc and I got shit for downloads. The only reason I'm really using bt is because of these seinfeld vids, then thats that.
I use Bt alot for Dling moveis and other tv shows that i cant get in america the rate at which you dl from bit will go up the more you up load on that particular file when i had a fast connection iwas downloading at like 500k/sec but now being back on 56k i would get 3-4 k a sec which is about avrg on normaly dl's but recently i have been getting extreamly slow downloads for some reason, fluxing from 0-2 kps so in an interier night i would dl 10 megs while having uploaded much much more It is legal to use bit torrent but it might not be legal to Dl certanit things like copy writed works and such but is is p2p so i wouldent worry much aobut being caught
A few possibilities as to why you get crap speeds.. 1) If you're behind a router you have to forward your ports which will increase the amount of peers you connect to dramtically. 2) It's possible that you've connected to an oldish tracker and most people have downloaded said files, resulting in not many peers and/ or seeds sharing the file at any given time.
Make sure your using a client that has alot of configurable options, what ports to search how many total connections etc. I use ABC torrent.. works great, thers the occasional download that chugs along at a few K a second, just hafta leave it on for a few days... hell i remeber downloading full games over dial-up it let the thing run for 2 weeks straight, and if the connection was interupted I would start it all over again
I don't get how BitTorrent works... then again I'm stuck with Windows and most BT users I know are free from Mikey-soft. :|
Just used BT today to dl cs:s, i downloaded like 5 cd's of music yesterday and the day before, i use suprnova.org + abc.
