My life has been plagued with bipolar since childhood. Until the age of 45, my condition was a horrible mystery. I used to get stoned all day from age 22 to 29 and I felt really good with reduced bipolar problems. I now realize, self medication back then was way...way over done and abusive. Later, I quit since my focus on career and life was severly impeded. However, bipolar came back and was nearly unbearable. .

For the last 10 years I have used several prescribed medications such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft.... and they work for a year or so, then poop out. Lately, I've been taking effexor and lamicil and my life is 75% better. At age 59, I'm retrying small doses of weed, 4 puffs every 2 days to reduce depression and some anxiety, with persisting panic attacks.

Do you think my self medication is wise?

Will pot become a severe habit, that always leads to abuse?

    Help, I really worried.....

A life 75% better is a good life.....don't be too greedy............by the way, to improve a life there's nothing like playing russian roulette.....I did it...once...

(just kidding......I'm just trying to say that the help you need you won't get it from an hippie forum with anonymous posting)

Well some people would say that your "self medication" is wise and some may say its not.Your the only one who can decide if it is or not.In my opinion i would say if it helps you out thats fine as long as your the only one effected by it.If you smoke and your actions for some reason effect others then maybe its not to wise to smoke. As far as meds go Paxil, prozac and zoloft are for deppression not Bipolar.I dont know why the docotor would give you that if your bipolar and not deppressed.I by the time I was 14 my docotr gave up on me because she had put me on every kind of anti deppressant and there was with no change in my mood.I dont think that you smoking pot will become abusive again becuase when you were younger you relized that you were abusing it,now that your older you know the diffrence between smoking for the hell of it and smoking for your "health".Have trust in yourself.
