What about them makes those days so special? I mean why shouldn't everyday here be special? You only live once on this earth, make it the best you can, don't conform to the idea that only certain days are for celebration. examples; birthday,christmas,420(for all you stoners),spring break, exc. Goes on forever. Everyday should be a celebration of the fact you are alive. Who agrees?
shaired perceptions are of course what makes celibratory days special. big times, get togathers. people, some people need and enjoy to have them. i think that what any of these days are in celibration of, generaly tends to have less to do with it then simply that. i think it's good to have days that mark the passing of the seasons, the turning of the year. that way we can have these days that we can all enjoy getting togather on, without feeling that the day or the celibration is owned by a particular belief. i celibrate the equanoxes and solstices. though with no particular dogma. that the festivals of certain beliefs coincide with some of them, is just one of those things that happen, for a number of reasons, some of them having been premeditated, others not. i'm not so sure i'd want to make a big production out of every day. i'm not so suer any day needs to be as big a deal as some people make out of it. it's good to see people happy though, and if that's what they enjoy doing, well the're welcome to enjoy doing so. =^^= .../\...
Yeah i get that part, like its cool to celebrate stuff and all but i think its valid that everyday should be special, and bring togetherness. But different strokes for different folks i guess peace
well i see your point too. there are things people trott out on certain days then shove back in the closset with the cobwebs and the skellitons the rest of the year, that what makes sense is that if they really mean it, that's how they'd live all the time, not just to put on an act for one special day. =^^= .../\...
As much as I dislike religious holidays, they at least serve the purpose of gathering people. Of course, there's way too much consumerism associated with it today, but it brings people together. But I agree that we should simply celebrate life everyday.
All societies, past and present, have had their shared traditions and celebrations. It is part of being human beings, social and community creatures. The consumerism surrounding our holidays is annoying though. But on the other hand, I do enjoy getting christmas presents!
I love Christmas day, I hate the consumerism. I love Christmas because it's a day in which I get to see all my family as it's a date in the year where the vast majority of us get time off work and education. I would much rather it had nothing to do with christianity and was just a celebration of family and love. But it is a convenient holiday for us to take advantage of. Other than that I try to make everyday a celebration of life, and just ignore the silly religious holidays, but I do take advantage of them.
