My buddies and I were on a cruise the other night. So we parked outside my house and just sat there and talked. And, talking led to thinking out loud. And this one just really caught my attention: Why do Humans speak different languages? Evolutionarily speaking, it doesn't make sense at all... A cat from the U.S. could most likely understand a cat from Russia or China, couldn't it? So what sense does it make for humans, as a species, to have however many different words there are for water, or tree, or dirt. Or any other world constant, for that matter...
man, who says an italian cat doesnt speak/understand italian? i knew a guy who got a tame wolf from the arctic that was tamed by the eskimos or whatever, and it only responded to commands in their language. like, in order to get a spanish dog to sit you have to say 'sientete', not sit. of course thats training but you know what i mean, works the same as language in a way. holy fuck, thats sweet. lol.
insane jester, you have the sickest signature. well, both you and 40oz actually. both you guys rock based on signatures
but its from isolation.. for example spanish, english, and german all have roots in latin.. when the people groups were isolated, thats when the languages started to grow apart and be their own
All animals are born with a known language already in their brain. Humans are not so if a group of people that are not in contact with any other humans except for themselves then they have to make their own language.
Language evolves based on where people live, how isolated they are, and stuff like that. Like, if you took a group of people, put em in little isolated communities, in 50 years, there would probably be some variance in how they spoke compared to the rest of the country. Language changes over time, and humans have had a lot of time, and a lot of traveling, to switch things up. So that's my explination for that! But even with our crazy different languages, people from all over the world could probably understand each other by acting stuff out and the like... we still have that innate ability to make others understand. Like animals! Hmm... I'm too stoned to think about this. Heh. ~Nova
I think the universal language is music. Everyone can understand it no matter what language you speak (If you dismiss the lyrical part of course, but even then you can understand their tone and mood).
I pondered this one when I was a little girl... It's strange really... But you see the earth is much 'smaller' now. Little pockets of civilization existed here and there but there was no way for the groups to communicate with one another hence different languages were formed. the rest is history and i'm too stoned to explain the rest and i do apologize for the run on sentences...
