Hello everyone. I'm a novice sewer but I can do anything as long as I have a pattern. I tried making some things without patterns and they worked for the most part... as long as I made a slit here, added a zipper there... you know.. Anyway, I just wanted to know if any of you know where I can get some patterns for some phunky clothes (ie. peasant shirt, and those dresses (I'm not sure what they're referred to but they look a bit like an apron in the front)).... So any websites or companies that make these patterns would help a lot! I go to the local fabric and sewing stores a lot of the time and look through their books and every once in a while I see something that I sort of like but I'd really like to learn different methods of making these clothes so in the future I can do it for myself without any problems.. Thank you
I'm always in search of patterns, but I hate to pay for them. I find some on ebay, but it's hard to really find the kind I'm looking for.
just do an image search on google for a pattern name or words having to do with the pattern, though personally we all know the best pattern in the world is paisly
www.simplicity.com You can view their catalogs online, they do have a lot of peasant type blouses and dresses. They even have a pattern for an apron top! This is number 5016.
I pick up patterns for a song from community thrift stores... like about 50c to a dollar, with conversion, US shoppers would pay about half that also try garage/ yard sales I'm talking 60's and 70s patterns to, you'ld be amazed at what people get rid of
i am wanting one of those apron tops but i am a good sized girl to say the least and i want it closed in the back so you cant see my roles mainly if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated
dread_wannabe~i saw a voluptuous woman wearing an apron top--she had a little cotton tank with spaghetti straps on under the apron. it looked very flattering on her.
If you've got a princess seamed pattern (dress, top, bathing suit...) that fits you, use that for the top part of an apron top. I got mine to work out quite nicely with a few alterations to a bikini top pattern- wanna see? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/spiderallis/clothes%20i%20made/apron1a.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/spiderallis/clothes%20i%20made/apron1b.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/spiderallis/clothes%20i%20made/monketapronfront.jpg
I'm a larger girl, too. For tops like that...just go to Cato's, or the plus-size section at Wal-Mart. If you can sew, they have patterns for larger sizes at Wal-Mart, too. Just wear a tube top underneath it, and there ya go.
There is a groovy kind women named Lauren Clay that has put out a book called Threads for Heads. This book is absolutely amazing because Lauren takes you through step by step and teaches you how to make clothes without patterns, custom sized, and everything. she even talks about patchwork. There is a section for pants, and apron skirts, and apron shirts, and apron dresses, and bags. She even tells you how to make pockets. I know that there are some copies on ebay right now, and she also has a website that you can order the book from. It's fantastic!
