Australian self perceptions

Is it just me, or do we (Australians) seem to have some funny ideas about ourselves?

For example;

-we seem to think that when we go overseas, everybody 'loves' Australians.
-we think we are tougher than foreigners (in one way or the other).

Can anybody else think of things that we tell ourselves that doesn't quite match with reality.

 

Well, most Australians are convinced they're better than everybody else - which can't be true because then there would always be somebody better than them.

 

But everyone does love Australians! At least i do.

 

Australia has some very middle-class bourgeoisie way too comfortable communities. These Australians are very whimsical and believe they can somehow relate to the poor blacks who live in dire poverty. The type of people who are likely to go on about how inequality is bad and we should all just hold hands and bounce into the sunset. Over-comfortable pricks who dont realise all of our under-appreciated luxuries are coming from fucking over a bunch of mongoloids in other countries. The people who think Australia is some kind of social paradise, when there are high rise flats housing people in packed tight spaces.

Of course, coming from me, this is quite hypocritical. I have a very middle-class family and go to a very middle-class public school. But, if anyone agrees or disagrees with what I said please reply.

I think most Australians are honest about our situation with the blacks exactly like you are. In fact we're only just a little bit better than places liek America because we don't really give a shit, but we don't make it look any other way.

I agree though, this place is so bourgeious. The little voices that want real freedom and real equality are being drowned in all the bullshit. Seriously, nobody gives a fuck at all!

I do think though that it might have a huge part to do with the current generation in control (the baby boomers). However it can go either way, they have almost gone out of their way to make us stupid and they could very likely be successful.

 

I agree totally. Although, I do think alot of people in their mid 20s to late 30s also voted for Howard last election because of his interest rate propaganda.
