I understand about |-------| <--that much of the language. lol.. I still think it's spiffy that there is a forum for ..er.. 'us'. BTW - If anyone knows of any good CD's or books I could read that will help me freshen up on the language, please let me know. I know that I'll probably never be fluent, but it would be nice to know some Italian. For some reason, here in Arkansas, when people find out that my father was Italian, they expect me to know how to speak it.
Hehe, i'm in this forum for completely the opposite reason. I'm not Italian in the slightest but I'm learning the language as an optional extra at university. Well I'm sure you can find textbooks for all modern languages for beginners in any good book shop. A lot of teach-yourself sorts of courses come with CDs/Cassettes too. If you have a fast internet connection you may be able to get Rai TV programmes on your computer. You could also listen to Italian web radio. You could rent some Italian films look up Italian websites, forums (like this one although it doesn't move very quickly), and maybe even find Italians to chat to online.
Hi... I'm from Italy... We have some things in common... I'm bisex... and I see here in hip' there're many people too... maybe in the US there're more ones... I don't know... I like reading and writing... and cinema and music... so I hope to give you good advices for your Italian... but one more could be... writing me in Italian...
about music... I suggest you to begin with the "great old seventies music"... it's called "cantautorato italiano" (like bob dylan... writing, playing and singing often alone.,..) like Francesco Guccini, Fabrizio de André, Lucio Dalla, Francesco de Gregori, Angelo Branduardi... but also group like Nomadi... very powerful and great songs... I adore especially "Auscwitz" and "Primavera di Praga" (Spring of Prague.. '68) really rebel and deep songs... and for the "new music"... I suggest you Modena City Ramblers and books....uh... so hard... too many good books! I dunno which genre do you prefer... if we consider the modern literature I suggest you to read something from Alessandro Baricco... but also Stefano Benni (humoristic and political).... ciaooooo
Erm, about the music. Bollocks to that. Why do you ignore the likes of Palestrina, Pergolesi, Monteverdi, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini and all the rest of them? Even Vivaldi and Berio weren't that bad!
I know, its a bit of a stereotype, but if you can get your hands on one, try to get one of the old Linguaphones out of the library. It did wonders for me. And then you could go to lessons to supplement what you learned. In bocca al luppa!
I'm half italian too!! and i'm trying to learn the language...i've met italian people here and it's a bit embarrasing to tell them i can only understand a little...i think having spanish as my first language is quite a good thing cos it's quite similar, but it's not the same! anyways, i wonder if there is anyone here who'd like to help us italian wannabes.LOL grazie
