As you might have gathered I am 'Mama' to a year old lionhead, answers to Branwen. I've been trying to talk my parents into letting us adopt a companion for her. And it seems we're making really progress. To the point that the only thing stopping us is that we are going on holiday next week. We;ll probably adopt one after we come back. Naturally I'm hyped about it all, reading up, planning names and generally getting ready. There is a point to this trust me... So anyway I was wondering if anyone else here had/has rabbits, and was able to pass on some wisdom or just babble about their wonderfulness.
I have had 2 rabbits. Both of them were floppy-eared. The first one met an untimely death due to my neighbors dog I had only had her for 2 weeks. The second one was named Rose. She was so sweet. I brought her everywhere with me. She was like a little dog. I could be in the worst mood or have had the worst day and just the sight of her little nose wiggling up and down would make everything better. I did want a companion for her, but this was when I was a teenager and my parents wouldnt let me get one. I think its great you are able to get one for your rabbit. Will it be of the opposite sex? See any baby bunnies in your future? I dont have Rose anymore. When I turned 18 I left home and didnt have any room in my apartment for her....my parents had a huge porch she lived on....plus she wasnt litter box trained. I dunno, can you even train a rabbit to use the litter box? I would think so. Anyway, not long after I left they let her go in some park without my knowledge. They also did the same with my guinea pigs before that. How they could be so stupid, I still dont know.
Our second bunny probably will be a boy. It'll be fine though because Branwen has been spayed, he probably will be too (not keen on the idea of him spraying or whatever) You can litter train rabbits. It was really easy with Branwen, rabbits naturally only use one corner for a bathroom, so we just put her litter tray there and she figured it out. That was really mean of your folks to do that. Mine wouldn't, they love the rabbit as much as we do.
I had my first rabbit when I was 7 years old. It was like a dog to me... very tame. Her name was Alice and she died when I was 14. My boyfriend then bought me a new one, all over white, called Feivel. It was a very boring rabbit, sitting the whole day in one corner... Later I bought another one called Ronja. Now I have just one rabbit with hanging ears. He is called "Schlumpl" and I love him very much. I bought a guinea-pig for him, but he didn`t like it and bit it. So I had to buy another guinea-pig for the first one, so it`s not lonely. The pigs are sweet, too. Their names are Wilma and Frida. But I love rabbits more than guinea-pigs. They are more tame than the pigs. I didn`t buy a second rabbit for the first one, because I heart, that they don`t become as tame as when they are alone. So I live with my three animals all alone in my small student room and I´m always happy, when they welcome me, when I`m coming home!
We got a rabbit when I was five years old. My brother named it dingles (strange story, I won't go into it). Dingles was light brown and always had one ear up and the other down. Eventually my mom told my brother that he had to choose between keeping the rabbit and having his room redone. I never forgave him for choosing a new room.
