I hate war, it might be the absolute worst thing on this earth. I want to protest to end the Iraq war, but if we pull out now, what can be done with Iraq. They will be left in complete anarchy, and will have to make their own governement, even though we went in there to help them. And they would probably just end up with the same governement they had before, since thats all they know.

THe war is horrible, but is it the best solution this time?

If you hate war you have to speak out against it. Had more people done that in 2003 you wouldn't have to worry about what is best for Iraq. The Iraqi people would have decided that. As it is now they will have to decide that also, and as Americans or westerners we can't really guide or choose for them. It's their country and their choice in the long run. Haliburton and their stockholders shouldn't be allowed to decide what is best for them.

The facts are, the Iraqi people are going to have to decide what they want. We can not have this amount of troops there forever obviosly. We are going to have to start withdrawing troops, but we don't have to do it instantly.
The IRAQI forces and IRAQI government are going to have to stand up for there own country. G.W. seems to see it as a black and white issue, Stay the Course, or Cut N' Run. There is a middle ground that IMO would be the best for both countries in this situation. I do understand your opinion about pulling out right now. Do you suggest we stay there with the same amount of troops for the next 10 years or so and see how things are going after that?? We have trained a reasonably significant amount of Iraqi Troops, we've had many years to.
Our time is done there, it's their country, they have a government now, and leaders, and police, and army forces.
We have to send the message that we are not going to stay there forever, a gradual pullout starting today.

Yeah, i understand your feelings, and of course war is terrible. The reason that we are not pulling out is because we are afraid of civil war breaking out-- not just in iraq, but the whole middle east. That is not to say that i dont support the pulling out of troops. i am just saying that it is a bit unrealistic for the moment. Yes, there are plenty of iraqi troops that have been trained, etc. But there is also all the shit thats going down in lebanon, and it could spread FAST.

We have dug a huge hole for ourselves...or rather, the govt has. I dont think that we can just leave iraq in shambles and call it day-- not yet. I think that we need to begin to reduce the number of troops and begin decreasing the numbers, of course....but bush seems hell-bent on increasing the troops, and sending more of our young men out there.

It seems that people never care until it gets this bad... that is the sad part. Where were all these people who oppose the war 2 or 3 years ago? Fuck, where were these people during the last election? It seems they were all sitting at home complaining instead of actually going out and voting. When this whole iraq shit began, i was in highschool. I was protesting then! I was never for this war, but at that time, the approval ratings were sky high!

It makes me angry sometimes to think of how all of this could've been prevented...but no use dwelling on the past...

But it is hard to see any kind of future when the world can not agree on anything. And with the middle east in the condition it is, it hard to say what is right and what is wrong. it is hard to even say that this war HAS an end in sight. Who knows? This could all be a mischievious beginning to a terrible end.

    Peace and Love

Do you think, if we pulled our troops out, that the Iraqis would come to attack us eventually? That they'd go back to what they once were, but turn against America? Seems pretty sticky to pull our troops out.. Tell me if I'm wrong, I'd love to be!

"..they will ... make their own government.." Yes, they will. That is called freedom. It is their country to govern as they see fit, even if that means enduring a dictatorship. Its their country, if they don't like the dictator, they can have a revolution. (We did.) Civil war?? We had one, let's let them have one if they want to.

We screwed up Iraq. We can't fix it. Lets stop killing Iraqis, get our troops AND our contractors out of Iraq. If they want to kill each other to decide who runs their government, we can't stop them. Nor should we. Freedom means freedom to screw-up.

The US staying until the situation meets our standards is colonialism. We should get out of Iraq and let them be free.

The Iraq navy doesn't have enough troop ships to be a serious threat to the US.

We went into Iraq to rid the world of supposed WMD's. Time has told us it was a mistake. We took out Suddam, we let the Iraqi people choose and vote for thier own leaders. We practically gave them thier own revolution.
Considering that wasn't the main reason we went into Iraq (WMD'S) we have done more than our share. If Iraq ever turns into an all out civil war, it will do so if our troops are there or not. We can not be a Superhero Nation, and run all over the world overthrowing corrupt dictators and governments. Sadly we would be almost everywhere.

Yea, that's hilarious, and not far from the truth. It's like saying that if you've got a few ants in the house, you should burn the house down. That's basically what the US and Israel are doing. And it's more business for the defense contractors and the people that 'rebuild' things.

BTW, we didn't go to Iraq because of 'WMD's'-we went there because Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world after Saudi Arabia, and that's the only reason we went. Anything else you hear is just a bunch of hype.

Charise is right we only overthrow despots when they control oil or other valuable national resources, otherwise we turn a blind eye. Sadam may have been a bad leader, but his country was under control, until the US interceded. What about all the lost lives and genecide in Africa?

if u hate war, we should promot a peace culture...doing it with facts and not just words..look at "EMERGENCY" and the what they have been doing in the last 12 years in Afghanistan and Iraq for instance...at the same time i don't think the onu mission led by italy is areal peace mission, peacekeeping as it's been called in the last few years...it's just a military mission..it's another thing...it's like the humanitarian war...how can you bear such a word??!! Humanitarian war! it's insane...

there u are..this is exaclty what they wanna make you think..this is the result of the US propaganda..I'm not attacking you..I'm just warning you that you've been misled by those grey hair pigs sat behind a desk (fox news is plenty of them) or in charge in your Government..

once, at least, they said we attack 'cause we wanna take over that part of the world..now they became cynical..and they want the public opinion to approve their operation..so they need to win over public opinon..which is to say in just one word: manipulation...
