i was readin about some chics problem with natural dreading because she had oily hair, and i have very oily hair. im afraid it wont knot up on its own. should i backcomb? what can i do to dry my hair out? plain ol bar soap does a good job and im gonna try salt water but blahhh
Maybe the reason why you have such oily hair is becuase you probably use harsh shampoos. Maybe find a less harsh one or use it less or water it down... I never had you problem so check with someone else ;D
Yes, a lot of times the reason the hair gets oily quickly is because of the shampoo you use. Most shampoos leave residue in your hair, which will damage your hair, causing more oils to build up... Try washing your hair in Dr. Bronners for awhile....if that doesn't work...soak your hair in salt water and rinse it out...this will dry your hair, allowing it to dread more quickly. You may have to wash more often than most people...and that's OK, too.
I would also suggest you stop using harsh commercial shampoos. Give it a few weeks for your scalp to adjust to a healthier cleaning routine, and to figure out what works best for your hair. Wear a head scarf or hat or something if you're scalp is as oily as mine was before I stopped stripping the oil with shampoo.
well. last night i soaked my hair in salt water and lemon juice after my shower ( i used the soap instead of my shampoo) and it really dried it out, and i woke up this morning and found my hair a tangled mess!! i even have the start of a lil dread in the very back!!! yay!! thank you for all your suggestionS!!
try using tea trea shampoo... it tends to dry ur hair out... just make sure u wash it alot so that its clean and not so oily. it will lock up, just might take a bit longer
definatly cut out chemical shampoos. look for natural shampoo bars, a company called Lush makes some (i know they have stores in canada and england not sure where you are) avoid things with moistureising agents in them, like cocoa butter wash with salt water occasionally, but not too often because over use can over dry your hair maybe once every week or so (hell these days i only wash my hair a few times a month) If it gets too dry use aloe extract straight from the aloe leafs, its really good for giving your hair nutrients. and carefull with lemon juice in the sun, it can bleach your hair
