Does anyone have any experience going back to their college after flunking out? I would like to try.

I flunked out by 2/10 of a percent in my third year. It didn't help that I was on and off antidepressants and not getting any support with my depression. This is a small private liberal arts college.

    Any advice or ideas?

just make yourself focused. elliminate any outside distractions. I haven't failed out, but I'm entering my third year with a 3.5. I couldn't get this type of GPA without closing out the outside world for a while. Goodluck!

Are you looking for advice for when you're there, or for how to get accepted?

    Once you are there:
-- See a guidance counselor/advisor about what credits are required and what you need to do to get into good standing.

-- If you can, start off with just some good general ed. requirements, as you can generally get easier classes for that (get the gpa up out of probation range if they put you on academic probation).

-- At the first sign of trouble in a class, go talk to the prof and/or TA. If you're having trouble understanding a concept, don't be shy, go ask. Most TAs complain about the fact that nobody ever goes to their office hours (since they have to be there and it gets boring). Most TAs are really nice and want to help students understand the subject.

-- Go to class every day, no matter how boring, and no matter whether you think the prof will ever notice your absence. My fiance TA'ed for a class last year, which had around 100 students in a large lecture hall. No chance the prof knew each student individually, right? Somehow, he knew each person's name after the first time he handed back their exams. You never know when that might happen and when it might make the difference between letter grades.

-- If anything comes up to cause you to be unable to go to class -- you get the flu, you have to leave town for a family emergency, etc. -- talk to your prof or TA right away. They tend to be understanding as long as you don't try to bullshit them.

most important thing!! i found out that going to class every day cut down on my study time and allowed me to predict what the prof thought was important!

Wrong thing to primarily go to school for. The parties are just the instant gratification.

Ok...let me tell you from personal experience...GO FOR IT. If you think you're ready to go back to school, then go for it. I went straight to college after high school...thought I had everything planned out (at least for the most part), but...life happened. Corny as it may sound, that's pretty much the best way I can put it. I wasn't happy...I was confused...I was dealing with issues in my life...a whole myriad of things. I quit going to class, quit going to recitals, practice, lessons (I was a music ed. major). So, naturally I was placed on scholastic probation.

Then I waited...and waited...other things happened that prevented me from going back to school...loans and other issues...even though I felt I was ready to go back.

But, a couple of years ago, a window of opportunity appeared and I got back into school...with a .5 (YES a .5) GPA. Pathetic, right? For some reason, though, my transcript had my GPA as a 1.3 or a 1.5...like that was any better. lol Anyway...one semester later, I got all A's and my GPA shot up to a 2.6. Now, I've been back in school for a few semesters, and my GPA is currently a 3.4.

You see, if you really want something, and if you feel you're ready for it...then go for it. Anything is possible in life.

    GOOD LUCK!!!
