the day after my birthday i had to put my best friend down. my dog peaches-half border collie, half coyote, and all sugar and spice. she was very old, and had a huge tumor, and i knew she was in pain and i felt like crying everytime i looked at her. i had her since i was four years old, and now i feel this gigantic hole in my heart. seriously, she was more like a sister than a mere pet. but now i feel like i want another dog, not to replace her, but to help heal the whole. am i a bad person for this? i feel horrible about getting a new dog, even though i know nothing could replace my little Peaches.

Sorry to hear about Peaches, It sounds as if she had a wonderful life with you. She would want you to find a new friend. If you do get one you'll feel better.

Sorry to hear pets really do turn out to be the best of friends. When you feel the time is right you can get another dog. Your not a bad person, and your not replacing him...your just looking for a little clouser. And as glass_girl said your Peaches would want you to be happy.

So when you feel ready go ahead
    Feel Better:)

Oh, I am SO sorry! No, it's not bad to want another dog. While a new dog could never replace Peaches, they could help to ease the pain of your loss. If you feel that you're ready for another dog then I'd go for it. ((((((hugs!!!))))))
    love,
    mom

You will carry Peaches in your heart forever and she can never be replaced. I think it's great you are ready to open your heart to another pup so soon. Good luck in the search.
    Sweet dreams Peaches

I know how you feel... I have a difficult time dealing with the loss of pets. It has been almost 4 years since my Suzi Q passed, and I still think about her everyday and become a bit teary eyed.

It is not wrong of you to want another dog, but you must be ready. If you do not have the strength to care for another animal while you are grieving, do not go through with it. You will always miss your dog I am sure, but you will know when you are healed enough to have another pet.

Otherwise, maybe try getting a pet that is simpler to take care of in the meantime, such as a cat or gerbil. I find my cat easier to care for than ANY pet I've ever had.

Or you could even look into finding a pet that has a longer life span for security. If you insist on finding a new dog, keep in mind that smaller dogs usually live longer lives as well.

I empathize for you and wish you luck with healing. <3

    I'm so sorry :(
My border collie died around Christmas and we got a new dog right away, as much as I love Libby (the new dog) sometimes I wish we had waited to her. She probably gets called Paddy 2 or 3 times a day :(
She did keep the house from feeling so damn empty though.
